A taste of their own medicine

January 24, 2008

In February of 2007 it was reported that Arizona’s Legislators were “seeking more control over initiatives,” and that they gently suggested that after a five-year “cooling off period” that the Legislature be allowed to make changed to initiatives. …Cause you know–people shouldn’t be allowed to create laws the legislature didn’t approve of first.

It didn’t take long for citizen activists to deduce that if it smells like a rat and looks like a rat then it is, in fact, a rat. They’ve slapped a new initiative on the 2008 ballot-the Arizona Sunset Law. The initiative would require that all laws passed by the Arizona Legislature be subject to voter referendum after a five year period.

I hope the initiative passes. The legislature should get a taste of its own medicine.

Citizen review of laws passed by legislators? What a concept! Next time we see eminent domain abuse, higher taxes, violations of free speech rights and the freedom to practice our religion we can just tell the bums … “Sorry, but 5 years is too long to have to live with such bad laws!”

Those pesky Arizonans … ya’ takes yer’ eyes off ‘em fer a SECOND! And THIS is what ya’ get!

**memo to self** Retirement to Arizona is sounding better by the day. Besides, McCain will likely be President and so he WON’T be mucking around in AZ politics … sweet deal. Call the realtor in the morning.**
