So there’s this Police song on here because for two weeks straight its been all about mid-80s and mid-90s alternative and for an odd reason: This week someone was like, hey, you saw Juno, right? and instead of asking what I thought about the movie, they asked whether I thought it was fantastic that someone finally chiseled in film that Sonic Youth was overrated. Its true. So…so true. Sonic Youth is overrated. The Police, on the other hand, are too readily lumped in with STYX. They need their shot. I hope this makes for an interesting discussion about why we should forget the 80s ever happened.
This week’s music isn’t as flow-y as last weeks, but its pretty good. I like the Ryan Adams. I wanted “Words” but I had to settle for “Two” since no one’s managed to find “Words” a good enough song to store as an illicit MP3 on their music blog. And yeah, I know, you guys want the self-indulgent introspection back, but I think I’d almost rather you guess what these songs mean to me and let them mean something for you, which is pretentious and sappy, which beats out self-indulgent and introspective.

Let’s say you have a penny that was made after 1982, which has a mass of 2.5 grams or 0.0025 kilograms (Source). Yes, I know pennies made before 1982 have a different mass; I’m just sticking to post-1982 pennies to simplify matters. If you drop that penny from, say, the edge of the kitchen table, it won’t go very fast. (more…)
