Anna Nicole Smith took away my news!

Some of you are going to dislike this post, but I just have to let it out. I’m sick and tired of this Anna Nicole Smith story. Fox News… give me my news back. Please?

For the last two days EVERY cable news network has been playing HOUR after HOUR of Anna Nicole Smith headlines. Her death last week was indeed interesting, but only for a few minutes. And it is tragic that her daughter will have to grow up without a mother. The whole thing was very unfortunate, but that’s life. If you think the story is sad, then what about the other people who passed away in that time period? Families lost children and parents due to drunk driving, murder, accidents, etc. It happens virtually every minute of every day. So why is this story so important?

I could be early in saying something like this, but I find it rather sickening that a woman who made her fame from getting naked in front of a camera is idolized by millions across the globe when she passes away. Are our standards as a society really dipping this low?

When Paris Hilton releases a porn video the world goes wild. Bill O’Reilly starts drooling on himself (we all know he loves these kinds of stories), YouTube traffic triples, and the headlines are extremely predictable.

Britney Spears spreads her legs in front of the cameras and again, the crowd goes wild.

Is this healthy for the younger generations of our world? We should cradle, idolize, worship, throw many at, feel sorry for, these people? Is that what we want to believe?

Maybe I’m alone on this, but I want my news back. I want to know what’s going on with the War in Iraq. I want to know what the weather doing, who’s running for President and why. Fox News has been terrible over the last few days and I’m having a tough time believing it’s the Fox viewers who want to see it.

Is anyone with me?

    EO -

I gotta agree with ya’ - when yer’ right, yer’ right! This is not a new phenomena, however. When Elvis died, I was working at a factory making toothbrushes over the summer between my Freshman and Sophmore year in college. There were women so upset that ‘The King’ was gone they were unable to work for several days.

It will be over soon, I’m sure. One positive note, though - ANS’s death knoecked the lovesick astronaut out of the headlines. I’m sure this is merely another horrendous example of unintended consequences rearing it’s ugly head …

Shaking my head at what passes for news …
