Including Persecution in Any Interfaith Dialogue
June 8th, 2009 Posted in Religious Persecution, Islamists, IslamLeading up to the president’s speech in Cairo I continued to beat the drums for mentioning the tragic Muslim tendency to persecute religious minorities. I even had an op-ed on the subject published in Beirut’s Daily Star. For some reason, the president didn’t listen to me.
However, the point remains: Muslim regimes cannot ask for respect from the West when they imprison and kill Jews, Christians, Bahais, and members of other religious faiths. Most Muslim governments persecute. Many of them use or tolerate the use of violence against non-Muslims. No inter-faith religious dialogue is possible without dealing with this issue.
