Fred Thompson and Educating the Uneducated

22 April 2007

This is my first commentary blog here at blogs for Thompson. I have recently started my own blogsite to help educate those who are skeptical of Thompson’s experience in government, when compared to the other candidates. The site is not a commentary site, really, although I occasionally do add a few points, but it is a site where I post different policies, testimonies, and other accomplishments that I have found while researching his career to better prepare myself and those of us who are loyal to Thompson for attacks on his resume. When you get into one of those ideological debates while skewering the many message boards, you can a:) quickly check out policy positions and paste them to the board you are participating on, or b:) kindly refer them to www.fredthompsonpresidency.blogspot.com for all the policy that they can get their policy-wonk hands on. It even includes long congressional reports. There are partisans out there, lurking within our own party, who will stop at nothing to belittle Senator Thompson’s career. Now, for some real talk…..

Ladies and Gentlemen, momentum leveled off last week in the polls. For the first time since the Bloomberg/LA Times Poll came out, we saw the weekly numbers stall at around 13-14%, or even lose a point. Am I worried? Not yet. Senator Thompson had a very good week, in political terms. First, we had the Capitol Hill meeting, where many from our nation’s slimiest city seemed enamored with the good ol’ boy from Tennessee, and secondly, Fred seemed to have solidified some support from within the NRA. Of course, after the tragedies at Virginia Tech last week, one can take no amount of satisfaction in politicizing such a horrible event. However, some on the left, it seems, tried to do just that. Not more than a day had passed since Seung-Hui Cho’s brutal rampage (not to mention his quite bizarre video on NBC, plus the network backlash that followed), and the lefties were already starting to bang their drums to rouse up their brethren in support of blaming the conservatives. I was lying in bed, just past midnight, flipping the channels through on my satellite radio, and of course, stumbled over Air America. Whoever was the anchor was trying to blame the late, great Ronald Reagan for the failure of our instinctively violent nature in the 21st century. Right then and there, I didn’t know whether to burst out laughing, or to call the guy and tell him to keep it up! Why in God’s name would I do that? Well, because they will stop at NOTHING to blame conservatives for anything and everything wrong with the world. It makes them look like the complete hacks that they are. I don’t not hold it against all of my misguided, lefty brothers and sisters, but only those who wake up in the morning with their heart pumping quarts of hate through their icy veins. Those who don’t feel any compassion for those who don’t think just like them.

Now, why does this help our cause? Well, when Senator Thompson stepped into his radio booth and replied, he spoke to many deep within the silent majority. Those NRA card carrying gun owners woke up and said,” This is a guy that I can vote for. This is a guy that speaks for me.”

Personally, I don’t like to go trophy hunting, but if someone else loves it (as long as its not a Troy “Bobbylee “Gentry-type canned hunt), then it’s not my position to stop any of them. It’s their Constitutional right to bear arms. That, my friends, is why it could be a good week. With the liberals bringing gun control back to the discussion table.

Do all you staunch conservatives, quite sick of Washington style attacks politics, hold fast in your support for Rudy “the crackdown on firearms clean up the streets with corrupt officials Mayor of New York City” Giuliani?
John McCain, who is a true war hero, but seems to have lost his last marble lately?
Flip “the Courageous Rodent Killing Two Minute NRA Card Holding Hunter” Romney?
No?
What about the good Dr. Ron Paul? Well, the good Dr. Paul might be on our side on this issue, but that’s about the only thing he’s on our side about these days. Also, have you ever tried to talk politics with any of his rather rabid following? I would strongly advise against, or you might get a visit from popular late night radio stars, Jonathan Christian Webster III and Brother R. G. Stair (for those unfamiliar, don’t ask).
NO!!!! You go with your gut to the one steady voice through all of this, Senator Fred Thompson. The man that stood up for your rights as NRA card carrying American Citizens. That is why….. next week momentum will be in our corner again.

My fellow Americans, the Dems don’t know when to keep their traps shut.

Until we meet again,
Perico
