Could Thompson get minority support?

8 May 2007

In a new North Carolina poll out today, I found some numbers to be quite interesting, when compared to McCain and Romney….

Race by Republican voters (only about 2% black, 2% other)
Giuliani 32% White 32% Black 27% Other 42%
McCain 16% white 16% Black 0% Other 5%
Romney 13% white 13% Black 0% Other 0%
Thompson 25% white 24% Black 36% Other 48%
Different 13% white 12% Black 37% Other 5%

Let’s say that this trends through the south. McCain and Romney draw big zeros with the black vote. Romney doesn’t recieve any minority support. I find this quite fascinating. Thompson carries 50% of minority voters and 36% of black voters in North Carolina. Could he be an attractive candidate to minorities? At least more than President Bush has been?
