Academic Freedom
16 June 2007Fred Thompson recently wrote an excellent column on academic freedom. The radical left has taken over many colleges and in the name of promoting diversity it tries to stamp out all traces of conservative thought.
One of the most left-wing colleges in America is the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (UMass). I’m a professor at a college very close to UMass so I know a lot about what goes on there. Unfortunately, Mitt Romney while governor of Massachusetts did nothing to challenge the left’s stranglehold over UMass. He did spend a huge amount of political capital to fire a President of the University, but he never seemed to care about the left wing indoctrination of students that regularly occurs at the university. Journalists looking to see if Romney really is committed to promoting conservative values should examine his management of UMass.
