New Zogby Numbers - Huge Jump for Thompson
18 July 2007As posted on Real Clear Politics
Zogby released new numbers today showing another drop for Senator John McCain and a huge jump for former Senator Fred Thompson. The latest numbers:
Republicans
F. Thompson 22 (+12 from last poll, conducted 5/17-20)
Giuliani 21 (-5)
Romney 11 (+1)
McCain 9 (-4)
Huckabee 5 (+1)
Brownback 2 (-1)
Democrats
Clinton 37 (-2 from last poll, conducted 5/17-20)
Obama 25 (+1)
Edwards 11 (nc)
Richardson 3 (+1)
Clinton’s lead in the updated RCP Average is now 14.0%.
Giuliani’s lead in the updated RCP Average is now 6.9%.
Much has been made of Senator John McCain’s perilous slide to the dark and murky depths, but less has been said about the slide of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is down 8 points since February. Disaffected conservatives, apparently, are flocking to former Senator Fred Thompson. Can he sustain his meteoric pace, or will he come crashing back to earth?

OK - A Thompson-Pawlenty ticket sweeps the south and gets 10 electoral votes from nice land. Is that enough ? Conversely a Hillary nomination assures she will not be competitive in the South. Someone do the electoral math for me in places like Nevada, New Mexico (without Richardson as a running mate), Colorado, Wisconsin, Iowa.
