I think him being for federalism/against Roe v Wade is something he's come to lately, maybe even just now since he decided to run for President. Ive seen at least one quote that suggested that he was for Roe v Wade years ago. That means that he may be fibbing when he says he has always opposed Roe and been for Federalism. Im also skeptical of Sununu's denial of him being loobied by Thompson; I think Sununu is the kidn of guy that would fib about that just because he hates the liberal media, is a partisan republican, and is tryign to help Thompson. Im sure he knows there's no way to prove it either.

Also I dont think Thompson has even made clear where he stands on the issue now. Its possible that when he does clarify his postion it will be the same as it was back in the nineties, that he thinks abortion should be legal ("not criminalized") in the first trimester with reasonable restrictions, with the one change being him now opposed to Roe v Wade. His votes in the senate dont preclude that either, none of those were about banning abortion. Theyre all votes that a pro-choice politician could make.
