When the godless Attack …
Posted by: Blue Collar Muse in Blogroll, Conservative, Geopolitics, Individual Responsibility, Liberal, War on TerrorOver at James Whittington’s blog, he’s got a post entitled ‘Can’t You Understand They’re Freakin’ Crazy?’ In that post he concludes, “Americans need to understand that we must be unified and fight the terrorists like there is no tomorrow, because if we don’t there may not be a tomorrow!” He then quotes Walter Williams chilling observation, “The West has the means, but not the will, to utterly destroy terrorists and countries that give them sanction. I hate to think of what the terrorists might do to give us the will.” I cannot recommend reading the rest of his post highly enough.
Reading James’ post got me thinking. The truth of his statement, so clear and obvious to me is lost on those who would try to appease the bloodthirst of our enemies.
Having given it some thought, I’ve concluded the reason many people generally and the Left specifically refuse to acknowledge the proverbial elephant in the dining room is because they are, as Ann Coulter points out, godless.
Whether true unbelievers or whether one of the de facto variety of unbelievers who acknowledge the concept of the existence of God but practically behave as if He does not exist, they are impaled on the horns of the same dilemma.
If there is no God, then man is, indeed, the measure of all things. Some men create God in their own image while others make man God. Either way, man is the ultimate arbiter of life.
To believe that and to also admit that men can do what radical Islamists do creates a fantastic tension in their souls. If the odd whack job kills himself and 32 others at a Virginia school, he’s obviously deranged. The god/men make laws restricting crazy people and institute programs to help identify them. Thus the god/men triumph over the occasional aberration. Problem solved and it’s off to our tee time, the next gala or a black tie dinner.
But what if god/men come face to face with others who practice the same philosophy as the odd whack job who kills himself and 32 others at a Virginia school? What if there were an entire city of such whack jobs who not only do not think they’re whack jobs but believe they are divinely ordained to kill themselves and as many others as possible at a school, a mall, a party, a disco, a hotel, on a train, on a bus, on a plane, in an office building and on and on and on and on and on? What if there was an entire nation of these sorts of people? What about an entire region or maybe an entire continent? What if these whack jobs somehow escaped their city, nation or continent and set up small enclaves of like minded whack jobs all around the world and in every country and began to carry out their agenda of killing themselves and as many other people as possible at schools, malls, parties, discos, hotels, trains, buses, planes, buildings and on and on and on and on and on?
The answer to that “What if?” question is that the god/men would be facing exactly the situation that they find themselves facing today. And the answers are horrendous for the god/man to contemplate. You see, if there is no God and man is the measure of all things then there is no way to say the whack jobs are wrong and the god/men are right. Further, given the right circumstances, seeing that the whack jobs do exist, it is possible the god/men could become whack jobs! Thus the god/men aren’t really battling whack jobs. They are, in fact, fighting themselves under another name. That might be a pill that’s VERY difficult to swallow.
So, they opt for the next best thing. If it’s possible for god/men to become whack jobs, maybe whack jobs can become god/men. They cannot adopt a policy of destruction of the whack jobs by the most expiditious means available for that would mean they’d be killing another version of themselves. They must reason with the whack jobs, treat them as they’d like to be treated, compromise a little here and there, give a little and get a little, go along to get along and all the other euphimisms of appeasement. If it works, problem solved and it’s off to the tee time, gala or black tie dinner.
But what if it doesn’t work? In that case the god/men have no place to appeal to because the whack jobs have just as much claim to Right and Truth as the god/men since man is the measure of all things. It’s a nice sounding phrase, but like Justice, it’s as blind as a bat. In the gritty reality of day to day life, it’s a bit more complex than simply man is the measure of all things. It should rather be phrased, the man who survives is the measure of all things. If the god/men lose, the whack jobs ascend and as we all know, “History is written by the winners!”
As it stands now, at least as far as the god/men are concerned, the whack jobs are winning. The god/men cannot point to a single example of negotiated success. Their only hope is to surrender and hope for mercy from the whack jobs. Not the smartest move they could make but, truthfully, it seems to be the one the god/men on the Left are pursuing. Quit and withdraw, let the whack jobs have whatever they want and maybe they’ll leave us alone. If they can’t fight themselves and they aren’t able to reason with themselves then it’s the only option left. Well, the only one left if they want to continue to be god/men.
There is another alternative. They could give up being the measure of all things and let God be God. They could, as a friend of mine put it, resign as boss of the Universe. Once they did, entire worlds of other options become available to accomplish the goal of stopping the whack jobs from achieving ascendancy.
Thinking this would be the time and the place to make a few changes …
