Run, Fred, Run …
Posted by: Blue Collar Muse in 2008 election season, Blogroll, Conservative, Constitution Issues, Geopolitics, Immigration, Individual Responsibility, Politics, Tennesee TipsAt long last, Fred Thompson has announced his candidacy for the Presidency of the United States of America. Many have criticized him for waiting until now to do so; many have suggested he should have been involved in more debates so the American people could find out what he believes; many more are despairing as they see the viability of their candidate slipping away now that Fred has finally declared.
Personally, I have no problem with him waiting until now to announce. It is not too late or too early. It is merely when he chose to do so. Having waited this long will not impact his ability to communicate his values and views to the voters. In fact, he was probably wise to wait this long. He has avoided much of the sniping and bile that would have been directed at him before now had he declared earlier. That he has taken the time to get his house in order and to line up his team and message before declaring speaks well of him, not ill of him. He wants to do it right.
I believe that he has. Was it worth the wait? I believe that it was. His video announcement, if nothing else, would seem to show that much. In just over 14 minutes, he outlines his vision for the country, his message for the future and his commitment to the people of the United States. See for yourself.

True story. I would feel so much better voting for Thompson over Romney or Guilani. Of course, only if Duncan doesn’t get the nod.

Indeed!
Perhaps we’ll get a nice surprise if Duncan fails to get the top of the ticket. Maybe he’ll get the Veep nomination.
Thompson/Hunter has a nice ring, no?

BCM,
I would like to call that plan B. (Plan A could be Hunter/Thompson .)
I agree with Tammi, except I can’t vote for Giuliani.

I can’t vote for Rudy either. The more I learn about him, the less enthusiastic I become. He did a great job as Mayor after 9/11 but that doesn’t translate to being a great President.
Fred is newly announced and he’ll be vetted over the coming days. Perhaps we’ll learn something about him that will be fatal. Unlikely, but possible. Those of us here in Tennessee have known and loved him for years. If he can nationalize the persona he projects here at the state level, he’s going to be formidable.
At this point, I’m going with Fred. I think Hunter will do well in the process but I don’t see him having the legs to finish the race. What he will do, however, is start the process of becoming a nationally known Conservative and building both name recognition and credibility. These will stand him in good stead in the coming years.

I’ve gotta jump back in here … no plans for me to vote for Guilani either. He’s no different than any of the demonRats running. They can have it if Rudy is our only choice. However, I doubt that he will be.
I guess if you’d have to look on the bright side of Guilani winning the GOP ticket … I think there would be gun sales in record numbers.
