Who ISN’T Going to be the GOP VP?
Posted by: Blue Collar Muse in 2008 election season, PoliticsI got what I would normally consider a routine email yesterday. It was the RNC schedule and roster of speakers for the upcoming soiree in Minneapolis next week.
It was about as interesting as watching paint dry until I realized something.
On Monday night, the following speakers are listed:
Gov. Tim Pawlenty (Minn.)
U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (Conn.)
U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.)
On Tuesday night these folks are slated to speak:
Former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani
Gov. Sarah Palin (Alaska)
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (Ark.)
Former Gov. Tom Ridge (Pa.)
Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson (Tenn.)
Wednesday night’s roster sports the following:
Gov. Bobby Jindal (La.)
Former Gov. Mitt Romney (Mass.)
U.S. Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.)
And closing night has the final slate including:
Gov. Tim Pawlenty (Minn.)
Former U.S. Sen. Bill Frist (Tenn.)
None of this would be anything earthshattering except that also slated to speak on Wednesday is the following person:
Republican Party’s Vice Presidential Nominee
If we assume the RNC is not being clever, there are a lot of names on the list that are NOT going to be the GOP’s VP nominee. Now the suspense is killing me …

Senator McCain,
After Hillary’s speech last night, IT’S NOW OR NEVER!!!!

It could mean that the running mate is one of those guys, Romney or Jindal. Who knows though?

@Glen -
I thought so, too. But it was weird reading that and then trying to think of the RNC as a group of fiendishly clever political manipulators trying to tell us nothing while telling us nothing about something …
Either way, the waiting will be over soon. Still, it’s now harder to wait than it was before.

I think it could be Pawlenty. The only problem with Pawlenty is that he, like McCain, has bought into Global Warming. But at least McCain has come around on drilling (a little), so maybe Pawlenty will do/has done the same.
I forget where I saw this, but I think Marsha Blackburn was on the long list of possibilities at one point. That’s probably not going to happen now though. She’s been getting a lot of face time lately though…

@Dan-
News in the Tubes is that the GOP is including a Global Warming/Environmental plank in the platform. Maybe Pawlenty and like minded GOPers are winning some ground.

I took a risk and predicted Romney on E!! a few days ago. (I also predicted Bayh for the Dem Veep and was amazed they went with Biden, so what the heck do I know…?) I still think McCain will probably go with Romney but the more I read, the more I doubt myself. (sigh)

I like Mitt as a Veep pick, too. And who knows, perhaps the GOP is being clever, as I mentioned. That having been said, there are a lot of names that are not on that list, including Eric Cantor’s. Erick and the Directors at RedState formally endorsed that choice yesterday. Cantor would be fantastic!!
Regardless of the choice, it’ll all be over but the shouting and crying in a day or so. The only sure thing is we likely won’t be awakened at 3AM with a text from the GOP about the pick. And that will likely be the last good night’s sleep any of us junkies get for 8 weeks or so.

Mitt’s a great guy, and generally E’s on the money, but Romney doesn’t help the ticket where Mac needs it most.
Gotta go with Blue on this one. Cantor! Cantor! CANTOR!!!

Just a few hours left, my friend and all will be revealed. The only thing left to decide will be whether to weep tears of joy or sorrow …

I think McCain should choose Ron Paul… talk about being a Maverick:)
I think it will be Romney. He’s the safe choice and as close as it is, the safe choice won’t backfire.

I think it will be Gov. Palin. McCain and the GOP have got to mix things up. If they don’t make it interesting, it is over.

It is Gov. Sarah Palin (Alaska) - apparently the RNC was just being clever.
