The latest from Michael Moore – he’s now stolen and posted work that belongs to another. This time the “another” is a fine writer and acquaintance of mine.

As angry as I was about Moore’s crime, I believe the lesson here is – this is not a “Michael Moore” problem, it’s a principle problem. If there is no respect for your right to your own property; if, in just one example, your property in the form of money can be taken from you by Government via taxation and given to another to benefit those doing the taking ~ why are we surprised to see the exact principle and philosophy applied to other property – real, intellectual or otherwise?

Better than calling out Michael Moore is a strategy focused on excoriating anyone – Republican, Democrat, Greedy Corporate Robber Baron or Thieving Limousine Liberal – ANYONE – who advocates taking ANYTHING belonging to someone else and using it for themselves. If I do not have the right to everything that is mine then I do not have the right to anything that is mine.

If society as a whole condemned such blatant theft, we could just about return our country’s moral and political compass to true north with need for little more in the way of activism. If we only squeal when our ox is gored, then we are little better than Rand’s Moochers and Looters.

What Moore did to Jack Lail and his videographer is criminal. But so is what the Government does to Americans every day.

I’ve held the political views I’ve had for years. While they’ve changed and matured during that time, the underlying philosophy behind them has not. My point is that as an American and an activist, whatever success I have had in challenging and changing the political system has not been grounded in what I believe. Rather my success was built on a foundation of technological innovations which gave me, as an individual, the same voice in the political arena as that enjoyed only by politicians and media moguls until quite recently. Technological innovation remains the driving force behind the growth and success of Conservative thought and influence. Specifically, online and internet innovation.

The latest offering in that innovation process is a product I’m both excited about as an activist and proud to be associated with as part of the team responsible for developing it and bringing it to market. It’s called TeaPartyHD and it has the ambitious goal of providing a professional and complete news network to the online community dedicated to covering and reporting the news in a crowd sourced, community powered format. In addition, there are several related products in the pipeline that will complement and enhance TeaPartyHD which will be announced and released in the near future.

For activists and organizations looking for the next generation tools to make your voice heard and to fight for the principles that will rescue our Republic, TeaPartyHD is designed to be a significant weapon in your arsenal. The official launch of the network is taking place in Nashville, TN this Saturday night May 29th at a fund raising event for the National Fiscal Conservative PAC. You can find more details in the TeaPartyHD press release included at the end of this post.

What I’m asking you to do is visit TeaPartyHD right now. The site is not quite spit polished but our plans and vision will be clear. Visit the site, look around, kick the tires and give us your feedback. What do you like? How can you see TeaPartyHD fitting in to your plans or those of your organization? Most importantly, while you’re there, please sign up for email updates by clicking on the “Free Membership” button. There is a lot of information coming about the products and services offered at TeaPartyHD, ways you can be personally involved and how you can use TeaPartyHD to make a difference right in your community. Let us keep in touch with you and you won’t miss any of it.

Finally, if you like what you see, please tell a friend about TeaPartyHD. The real success of the network will be when your stories, opinions, solutions and ideas are being talked about around America’s workplace water coolers, over lunch after Sunday services and between family and friends as they look to the future and prepare their individual responses to the tyranny their Government is forcing on them. There’s no way to predict how many people will be, as I was, energized by this new tool. The only sure thing is that they are out there, silent now – but looking for the right tool to help them speak out. In the end, that’s what it’s all about, after all. As the TeaPartyHD slogan says – it’s “Your Vote. Your Values. Your Voice”!

Welcome to the news important to you. Welcome to the news reported by you. Welcome to TeaPartyHD!

TeaPartyHD is piloting beginning May 29th at the “An Evening with Ann Coulter” event sponsored by the NFC-PAC on May 29th, 2010. Usually when I hear stories about a Governmental something-or-other trampling on the 1st amendment rights of Liberty loving Americans I think of national Democrats and their smarmy puling about the beat down they take on Talk Radio.

In what will no doubt be a visual aid for examples of “GOP behaving stupidly”, a group of Arizona Republicans (likely outmaneuvered by the lone Democrat involved), has decided that the 1st Amendment’s guarantees don’t extend to residents of Maricopa County if the people doing the speaking happen to also work for the Government.

At issue are relationships members of the County Attorney’s office have with the media, including a few bloggers. Not all the media, however, just those beating up on the Maricopa County Supervisors County Manager’s office.  Seems the Board of Supervisors has been feuding with other state departments for some time, including messing with Maricopa County’s best known government employee, Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  Not only that, the same Supes squeezing the County Attorney employees have a really bad track record when it comes to things like character and integrity.  The gaggle of liberal GOP Supes and the lone Dem in their midst have been accused of “wasteful spending, power grabs and criminal investigations” and there’s even a Twitter account, CorruptAZSupes.

The dispute with the County Attorney’s office got so bad the County Supervisors fired the County Attorney as their legal representative.  And now the County Manager, David Smith, has decided to divert attention from his own side’s misbehaving by brow beating those pesky bloggers and their friends.

Smith sent a letter to the County Attorney’s office demanding to know who had relationships with bloggers – or else! They even specifically demand to know about activity that might have taken place on an employee’s personal time and their personal computers!  Specifically named in the letter is Michael Scerbo, the County Attorney PIO, who is SUPPOSED to be in touch with the media!  While there are some traditional media outlets mentioned, blogs are specifically targeted.  The Sonoran Alliance, The Cactus Alliance and Intellectual Conservative Arizona are all named in the letter as being eeeeeeevil bloggers that bad County Attorney employees shouldn’t have anything to do with.

Given the dust-up going on inside the GOP in places like NY-23 and Doug Hoffman v Dede Scozzafava and Florida’s Senate race with Marco Rubio v Charlie Crist where GOP stalwarts cling to Liberal policies and personalities, I shouldn’t be surprised to find Republicans squelching free speech and trying to use the power of their office – not to serve the people but to intimidate them.

One hopes that Arizonans have the ability to recall County Managers who seem ignorant of 1st amendment provisions or at least that the Supes are elected and must face the voters of Maricopa County for this.

Yesterday Mitch Stewart, the Director of Organizing for America sent me an email from info@barackobama.com encouraging me to go out and counter the efforts of “insurance companies and partisan attack groups [who] are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan”.

It’s really easy, too.

All this week, OFA members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform. You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.

We’ll provide everything you need: the address, phone number, and open hours for the office, information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off (with the option of adding your personal story), and a step-by-step guide for your visit.

(emphasis added)

This is to counter the impact of

special interest attack groups [which] are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it’s getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can’t let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand.

One hardly knows where to begin to respond. Let’s start with …

I thought large, partisan groups asking little guys to go out and do their bidding as if it was their own was astroturfing and, thus, irrelevant, dangerous and not to be paid any attention as it’s inherently false. Might one consider OFA and MyBarackObama.com a large, partisan group? Might there be a bit of a speck/beam challenge here?

Those opposing the President’s agenda are, among other things, “spreading lies”. Then Mitch says “members of Congress who support reform are being … physically assaulted …” Really? I haven’t seen a single report anywhere except for Mitch’s email which claims a member of Congress was physically assaulted for any reason at all, let alone because they might support reform.

And another thing … what reform are we talking about? First Mitch talks about “the President’s Plan”; then he says “health reform”; then he goes with “insurance reform” and follows that up with just “reform” in general. Mitch decries the “health care crisis” then later Mitch comes back to “health reform” and “reform” over and over until the end. What is it Mitch wants me to protest?

It doesn’t really matter in the end because if I don’t have a story of my own to tell (that’s just an optional option which I can opt for), Mitch will happily provide me with all the “information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off”. That sounds really good since most people can’t be bothered to actually know all that for themselves and be responsible for that knowledge.

Mitch closes his email telling me this is so important the President himself took time earlier and “wrote that “this is the moment our movement was built for” and asked us all to commit to join at least one event this month”. That can’t be astroturfing since I’m sure the President was wearing his Community Organizer hat and not his POTUS hat or Leader of the Free World hat or CinC hat or, you know – one of the other hats he’s required by the Constitution to wear. No … the President is speaking to me personally, man to man, without the cluttering inconvenience of a middle-man astroturfing organizer in the way. Just one concerned American to another – the way it should be …

Left unsaid is the notion that if two people who disagree with the President should happen to pass on the street it’s a mob bent on destroying the country, assaulting members of Congress and lying to line the pockets of their astroturfing, corporate masters. Also left unremarked upon is the hypocrisy of a mass email campaign appeal from the President himself to citizens across the country not being labeled as evil while any identical activity by those opposing him is a threat to the democratic process.

Why is it OK for Mitch and Barack but not for anyone else? I don’t mind their efforts at organization. I just disagree with what they want to organize on behalf of. Why won’t they permit me the same privilege? Why are my 1st amendment rights in danger while they use theirs to endanger me? These and other questions regarding the hypocrisy of the Left will likely never be answered intelligently or honestly by people who have no answer because there can be no answer that doesn’t expose their double standards and their true agenda.

Yesterday, NewsComa broke a story about a GOP staffer who Forwarded an email containing a picture which she found racist and offensive. She broke the story at 10AM and, according to the timeline posted over at Silence Isn’t Golden, with a little help from the Lefty blogosphere, “in the span of about six to six and a half hours, everyone knows just how much racism exists within the TNGOP.” Big press from the Left on Right wing racism!

At the same time that story was breaking, in what can only be seen as a historic case of irony, a Democratic staffer sent an email that was even worse.

Titled “Smiles for Monday”, this email made fun of Racism:

racism.jpg

Child Abuse:

child-abuse.jpg

The Elderly and Aging:

elderly.jpg

and the Mentally Handicapped.

congratulations.jpg

There’s more, of course, with vulgar language (including a couple of **F** bombs), quasi-nudity, and the Left’s puzzling fascination with Nazis.

What remains to be seen is whether the Left in Tennessee, and nationally, is willing to take a stand against Racism in Principle or show themselves merely interested in exploiting Racism by Party.

Will Lefty bloggers condemn this Democrat and call for his firing? Will the Media cover this on the news like they did the story of the GOP staffer? Will the Left police their own? Will this be written up and front paged at Daily Kos, Wonkette, and Think Progress? And what will the TNDP do? Will Chip Forrester lead the way and not merely call for the firing of this staffer but fire first and comment later?

I’d like to think there would be an identical response from the Left to this event. But I’m a realist. I have no doubt those on the Left with integrity and character will come out against this Democrat just as they did against the Republican. But I hold no hope anything approaching the howling multitudes on the Left calling for the head of a GOP employee will bother to clean up their own stable and remove the beam from their own eye. I guess the next six and a half hours will show us just how much Racism exists in the TNDP, won’t it?

Blue Collar Muse

UPDATE:  It’s 11:00 AM – emails sent out to several other Right of Center bloggers in Tennessee.

UPDATE: It’s a little after 11AM.  Other bloggers start posting it up.  Most of them get the point of my post.  What is the Left and the TNDP going to do about this?  Is their outrage partisan or principled? See comments for the initial responses.

UPDATE: It’s around Noon and the first confirmation of the email is coming out.  Southern Beale, a popular Left wing blogger, admits she received the email in question.  And Post Politics picks up the story.

UPDATE: The story hits Nashville is Talking!  Christian Grantham correctly reports the email came from a staffer from Karen Camper’s (D – Memphis) office.  Since we’re than close, let’s jump the timeline and report that the staffer in question is Blake P Graves.

UPDATE: Graves, too, realized his email may have been a bad idea.  Shortly after he sent it, he sent the distribution list the following under the Subject “So sorry about that last email”, “Everyone, please excuse that e-mail I sent, I totally missed the words used in it. So please accept my apologies for that e-mail. Nonetheless, have a great Monday!”  Since the entire email was just pictures, one can conclude that Graves was unconcerned with the message communicated by the pictures he sent, but was concerned only that the language included in the text on the pictures might be found offensive to some.  He says he “totally missed the words used” in the pictures?  Excuse me?  How is that even possible, let alone a valid defense.  That sounds like “I didn’t read the bill but I voted for it anyway!”  Good heavens!!

UPDATE @ 14:31 – Buzz in the blogosphere is that Graves is “just an intern”.  The point presumably being that Interns should not be taken seriously or held accountable or that things done by lower level functionaries, you know – like 20 year secretaries,  aren’t actionable.  Obviously most of those calling for the head of the GOP staffer believe only that GOP missteps should lead to tumbles.  They are wrong.  Beyond that, they seem also wrong about Graves’ status at the General Assembly.  His title is “Temporary Legislative Assistant”.  According to my sources, all interns ceased to be active on the Hill a month or so ago.  Only full time state employees remain.  Roger Abramson and Left Wing Cracker are wrong.  The “Temporary” in his title does not refer to a “Temp” as in a Temp Employment Service.  It means he does not yet have a permanent location.  He is filling in “temporarily” at Rep. Camper’s office covering a vacation or an illness or something of the sort.  But his title of “Temporary Legislative Assistant” makes him a full time state employee.  As to his politics, you decide.  At his FaceBook page, he lists himself as Politcally Liberal.

It’s gratifying when a major company does what is right! CNS News reports that Social Media giant quickly reversed their decision to pull an ad by Conservative activists at Americans for Prosperity. According to the CNS report, AFP National Policy Director Phil Kerpen credits CNS reporting for bringing pressure to bear on FaceBook and contributing to their change of heart.

Regardless of the why, I’d like to publicly thank FaceBook for their decision. It makes me confident that whatever direction policy takes in real life, the ability to talk about those policies in an open and neutral forum online. And they did it in less time than Coke took to pull the New Coke off the shelves.  Impressive. Thanks, FaceBook for doing your part to keep the Internet what it was intended to be …

Digg.com started as a place to promote stories ordinary people found newsworthy to see if others agreed. That was done by voting a story up or “Digg-ing” it. Another useful site feature if Digg users find duplicate, badly written or inaccurate stories, is “Bury”. A Bury cancels out a Digg.

The potential for abuse is obvious. The practice of such abuse permitted by Digg’s operators is legendary. Left leaning stories are Dugg while Right leaning stories are Buried by aptly named “Bury Brigades” which prowl upcoming stories for anything smelling of Conservatism. Digg did nothing to address complaints of their idea being hijacked and gamed. Along with many others, for exactly that reason, I left Digg years ago.

A similar scenario may be brewing at FaceBook. The Social Media giant approved and accepted an ad from Americans for Prosperity touting their NoStimulus.com site. NoStimulus.com features material supporting Americans who find the Stimulus Package dangerous and harmful. One feature was a petition to the Senate asking members to oppose it. Due to vigorous promotion, despite being hosted across 10 servers, the site was overwhelmed with traffic. Over 400,000 signatures will be delivered to the Senate this week.

Success by organizations standing for Individual Liberty, Free Markets, Limited Government and Low Taxes cannot be unchallenged. CNS News is reporting FaceBook has pulled an ad promoting NoStimulus.com which they had previously approved. Not because ad content changed. That remains same content FaceBook approved. What changed was “public” input.

FaceBook prohibits

– “Political content that exploits political agendas or uses ‘hot button’ political issues for commercial use regardless of whether the advertiser has a political agenda”;
–“Hate speech, whether directed at an individual or a group, and whether based upon the race, sex, creed, national origin, religious affiliation, marital status, sexual orientation or language of such individual or group”;
– and “Content that advocates against any organization, person, or group of people, with the exception of candidates running for public office.”

FaceBook cleared AFP’s copy in light of these. So what changed? CNS goes on to report,

But Facebook, which confirmed that it took “NoStimulus.com” down, told CNSNews.com that it did so because of user complaints–and did not mention any violations of Rules 8 or 9.

“At Facebook, we strive to create a trusted environment for our users and advertisers,” Facebook spokeswoman Erin Zietler said in an e-mail. “We encourage users to report any advertisements they find offensive or misleading, and we offer the ability for them to provide immediate feedback on our ads. We have a team dedicated to investigating ads and user complaints.

“In this case, users informed us about misleading offers in many ads with promotions related to the U.S. economic stimulus package,” the spokeswoman said. “We are in the process of removing ads with these types of misleading offers as they are brought to our attention.”

Go to AFP’s site. What is misleading? The ad promoted a petition drive and that’s what people found when they got there. What is misleading is the premise that AFP is somehow less than trustworthy for having run the ad. What is misleading is the suggestion AFP deceived FaceBook. What is misleading is any suggestion that FaceBook is not complicit in this. When can Americans expect the FaceBooks out there to tell busybodies to shut up and sit down? When will they have the spine to state the truth that “offend” is not the moral equivalent of “mislead”? I’m offended that FaceBook did what they did. Does that mean FaceBook will reinstate the ad? As a FaceBook user and AFP supporter, I want to know what was misleading? When different agendas compete, there’s going to be friction. I have no problem with that. When one side actually does “mislead”, I do object to that.

Unfortunately for Americans, whether it’s the Fairness Doctrine, the preponderance of Left leaning thought in Universities and traditional media, paid blockers harassing petitions signature gatherers or any number of other examples, the Left cannot win a fair fight so they don’t fight fair. If they did, they’d get shellacked as Americans generally disagree with their actual views. As my colleague Kevin Jackson at The Black Sphere notes,

… I was raised by my grandparents who were staunch Democrats. I recall as a child watching Reagan give a speech in his unsuccessful run for the presidency. After Reagan finished, I said to my grandparents, “Why are we Democrats, when what we believe is what that guy [Reagan] just said?”

The latest skirmish seems more of the same. They cannot win on content; time to bring the slander, smoke and mirrors, distortions and lies. It’s too soon to tell if FaceBook is actually adopting the Digg.com model for irrelevance. Perhaps they’ll grow a spine and refuse to serve as a tool for the Left. Stay tuned …
