State Policy Network News Jumbler

In our quest to provide the best news of the true free-market movement online via various super RSS aggregate systems, we decided to include a few specific pages geared towards policy based blogs. The first one of these to be released is a collection of blogs that belong to members of the State Policy Network.

The first phase of this system includes 14 blogs that belong to various policy research groups across the country. These groups focus on state based politics, which provides a great way for bloggers in those states to obtain good information on the political landscape in home states.

The system automatically pulls the last three posts from each blog, which allows you to watch the entire network from our page. This is a page you political junkies will definitely want to bookmark!

Pull the Trigger: Russian Roulette and the 2008 General Election

March 8, 2008

“Pull the Trigger: Russian Roulette and the 2008 General Election”

Around a year and a half ago, if the average Conservative was told that their choices in the upcoming election would eventually come down to Clinton or Obama versus John McCain, they would have responded in three ways. For Clinton, they would have said something along the lines that there would be no way we’re going to let “that witch” win the general election. For Barack Hussein Obama, the response would have simply been “Who?” If you would have said John McCain was going to be the Republican nominee, then that person may very well have laughed in your face.

The reality is that in November, the choices will come down to Clinton or Obama versus John McCain. In Clinton we have a pragmatic socialist that promises to bring socialized medicine and tax increases. The fact that she’s pragmatic may perhaps result her in being more moderate if elected but that is unlikely. In Obama we have a socialist that is a true believer. He is more liberal than Clinton, as well as more insidious. McCain is an animal all to himself. His is generally a liberal or apathetic Republican. He is quite liberal on issues like immigration and campaign finance. He admittedly knows nothing about the economy. He has demonstrated that he cares more about keeping the wheels moving in Congress than justice in relation to judges. He also voted against tax cuts. However, he has been great in relation to the war on terror, something Rodham and Hussein cannot credibly claim.

What do Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Bush I, and Bush II have in common? They all governed like liberals on significant issues. They all have had to operate with a Democrat controlled Congress. In Bush II’s case, he went into office with a Republican Congress, but he and the complicit Congress failed to govern like fiscal conservatives and alienated the party base giving the Democrats control of Congress. If the past is any clue, then McCain will likely govern like a liberal Republican and continue to alienate the base, likely continuing the trend of a Democrat Congress paired with a liberal Republican President. This history produced the wonderful judicial system we have at the moment. When a Democrat President was elected, they had free reign to do whatever they wanted since they controlled the Presidency and the Congress. That produced the not so “Great Society” entitlement programs that are crippling our government’s budget and our nation’s economy today.

It wasn’t until we had Republicans acting like true conservatives that we won the Senate under Reagan’s Presidency. In 1994, true conservatives staged a revolution in the polls and we got control over the Senate AND the House for the first time in over fifty years. If not for Bob Dole’s being a sub-par candidate in 1996, then Bill Clinton would have served only one term as President as the country was dissatisfied with liberal values.

A McCain presidency would likely result in the return of the “permanent” Republican minority in the House and Senate. Combine that with the fact that Republicans in government basically have to support a good portion of his plans because as President of the United States he is the party standard bearer, we might be in for a long dark winter night.

A Clinton or an Obama presidency would prove disastrous, as they would immediately go about instituting more socialist programs like socialized medicine which would destroy the economy and go a long way towards reducing America to a second-tiered economic power. As a second-tiered economic power, the military would eventually be reduced to second-tier status as well. In short, we’d be witnessing the death of our country.

There is a potential bright side of a Democrat presidency. If Republicans return to their roots and the Democrats stay true to form, there could be a repeat of 1994 in 2010. If we put up a credible candidate in 2012, then the Republicans will be back in black. We could then reverse the policies of the Democrats and put our nation back on track if we stick to our principles. This is a very rosy and unlikely scenario. It has at best a 50/50 chance of happening. Also, in order to get to this scenario, we would have to either stay home on Election Day or throw away our votes.

The bright side to a McCain Presidency is that the Democrat won’t be elected and that the social programs that both Clinton and Obama propose will not be instituted. He may even govern more conservatively than could be thought. If he picks a truly conservative Vice-President then after his one or two terms are over we could have avoided Democratic socialism and then transition to a truly conservative Republican President. This scenario is also unlikely.

The dark side to the Democratic Presidency is that their programs would be instituted and Republicans don’t gain the Congress or the Presidency in subsequent years. We would be literally seeing the death of America.

The dark side to a McCain Presidency is that his past behavior will ring true and his Presidency produces election results similar to Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Bush I, and Bush II. He wouldn’t institute socialized medicine and the like, but if the past rings true, his Presidency would merely delay those things from happening resulting in merely forestalling the death of America.

In short, this Presidential election is not unlike a game of Russian Roulette. We’re faced with a choice. The results of our election will more likely than not dictate that our country’s downfall be hastened. Our only hope is that unlikely occurs. That isn’t a situation that brings comfort to the soul.

So pull the trigger, maybe the gun won’t fire and we’ll survive.

The Only Thing that’s Sure About 2008 is that Nothing’s for Sure.

question-mark.jpg“The enemy of the conventional wisdom is not ideas but the march of events.” - John Kenneth Galbraith

This election cycle has truly been a roller-coaster and isn’t even over yet. Clinton’s big wins of Ohio and Texas have demonstrated yet again that conventional wisdom has been completely thrown out the window this year.

Let’s review some of the fallacies that conventional wisdom has brought us this election cycle:

Up until about November or December of 2007, Rudy Giuliani was the clear front-runner for the Republican nomination. The conventional wisdom was that Rudy was the only Republican that could beat Clinton and was therefore the clear choice for the Republicans in 2008. He had a huge lead in the national polls and until the primaries actually started, had a credible plan and a clear path to the Republican nomination. Not only that, but he had the name recognition that other candidates did not have. That apparently didn’t pan out.

Up until around January 2008, John McCain’s aspirations for the Republican nomination, much less the office of the Presidency, had been declared dead on arrival. He was running low in the polls, had almost ran out of money, and the party base loathes him. Today he stands as the Republican nominee. Conventional wisdom again fails.

Conventional wisdom once held that Hillary Clinton was the anointed nominee, and then Barack Hussein Obama burst onto the scene and became the inevitable Democratic nominee. Conventional wisdom again fails.

New Hampshire was supposed to be an enormous victory for Barack Obama. Clinton was rumored to hope to merely close the gap. Instead, she won New Hampshire and “found her voice”.

After Obama’s stunning series of victories and until two weeks ago, Clinton’s campaign was generally held to be dead. Then she won Texas and Ohio, breathing new life into her campaign and again proving the conventional wisdom wrong.

There are many examples of this throughout this campaign; one only needs to turn on the television to see more conventional wisdom in action. However, 2008 has made it clear that politics can be like a well-aged prostitute. It takes years to learn her tricks and nuances. She is also cruel, laughing at you when you are naked. But you keep coming back, because you love her and she is the only prostitute you can afford. Conventional wisdom has been off-base this year and naked predictions have been proven false. Politics is addicting and yet people fall into accepting and espousing the convenient, affordable conventional wisdom.

What does the rest of 2008 hold? In truth, the only thing that one can be sure about this year, is that nothing’s for sure and conventional wisdom is unreliable.

No, No We Can’t

February 25, 2008

The Conservative Post believes Barack Obama will be the Democrat nominee, and as such, we are turning our focus to him. Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past couple months, you’ve heard the new gospel… “yes we can”. It’s the chant of the cult of the Obamanation (hat tip to Mark Levin).

In an easy and fluid manner, BO (aka Barack Obama) the great orator, ends every new socialist proposal with the uplifting and positive message… “YES WE CAN!”. Women swoon and people faint. Honestly.

See, I don’t think anyone is really listening, though, to what he is actually saying… socialist program after socialist program… trillions of dollars on new taxes, spending and entitlements. Wait… maybe they are listening… and that is why they are fainting… hmmm.

Either way, I’m jealous. So I decided if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. So here I go with my best Obamanation impression… from a slightly different perspective…

Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you for coming out tonight… I know, I know… I love you too. Ladies and Gentlemen I am here tonight because I want to talk to you about the future. A future that is in grave danger if we elect a true believer socialist like Barack Obama.

You see, he to likes to talk about the future - and hope - and hope for the future, and his words sound great… until you actually listen to what he is saying. So Ladies and Gentlemen the answers we seek are these:

Can the American taxpayer afford a new universal healthcare entitlement, that can easily require at least a trillion dollars in new taxes… NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American taxpayer afford the crushing burden of 20+ million illegal aliens gaining access to social security, medicare, healthcare, and educational services because the liberals (including BO) want to give them amnesty… NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American taxpayer afford $150 billion in new taxes to establish so-called “green energy sector” (whatever the hell that is)… say it with me now… NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American taxpayer afford a Obama’s new $1 trillion tax as part of a new UN Global Poverty program NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American taxpayer afford $60 Billion in new taxes to support a new National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank (whatever the hell that is)… No WE CAN’T!

Can the American taxpayer afford another $250 million in new spending to bring teachers back to the Gulf regionNO, NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American taxpayer afford another $1.8 trillion tax increase over the next 10 years, an additional $1,800 in taxes per year for a family of four, by letting the Bush tax cuts expire… say it with me now… NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American people afford to let down our guard against the Islamic extremists who are intent on killing every single one of us… NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American people afford to allow Iraq to become a safe haven for Al Qaeda… NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American people afford higher and higher energy and gas bills because the liberals (BO included) refuse to allow us to drill in ANWAR and other places in the United States… NO WE CAN’T!

Can the American people afford higher energy bills because the liberals (including BO) are beholden to the extreme environmentalist who refuse to allow us to build more nuclear power plants and gas refineries… NO WE CAN’T!

I could go on all night Ladies and Gentlemen… I could go on all night. But I won’t. I just want to leave you with one final question… can you, the American people afford to loose any more of your liberty by electing a socialist to the office of the President of the United States… NO, NO WE CAN’T!

Oh my gosh… someone just fainted… is there a medic in the house…?
