Regarding the students and military thing, it’s not a sure thing those sorts of disenfranchising activities WILL take place. It’s just that they COULD take place under Edmondson’s wildly insane reasoning. Because he is the one that has changed the application of the law to include not just intent to reside, but intent to reside permanently! Yet it is not at all clear what that means. Some of the people who collected signatures on that drive had lived in OK for months and it’s my understanding that at least one is STILL living in OK. Yet his signatures were tossed out. So what is a permanent resident? Drew has yet to say …

I understand that most sensible people will respond, “But of COURSE it won’t mean that!” And they’re probably correct - for now. The point is that it might come to mean that in the future. After all, no one envisioned the sort of thing that Edmondson is doing now a couple of years ago. The very idea would have been laughable then. But here we are now.

It’s the same reasoning behind my reluctance to support the ERA as written back in the day. I saw way too many opportunities for abuse, such as eliminating the distinction in men’s and women’s restrooms and such. In 1980 or so, such an eventuality would have been unthinkable and condemned by those who supported the ERA. Yet we are fighting that exact fight in the US today without the strength of a Constitutional amendment to back it up. Times change and ideas do, too. I never consider any position too outrageous for the Left to adopt. Wild or unpopular positions are simply not advantageous to adopt now. They have time … they can wait.

So critics of the idea that it would be possible for Edmondson’s actions to be expanded to cover additional outrageous positions will just have to deal with the fact that I can’t rush to support Drew’s intentions. He has demonstrated that he cannot be trusted to make rationale decisions in the past. Why trust him to do so in the future?

I would love so see some calls within Oklahoma for some of the absurd consequences of Czar Edmondson’s policy such as barring out of state students and military personnel from participating in politics. Start throwing students out of Poli-Sci classes dealing with state government and telling the state’s 47,000+ military personnel they can’t read he politics section of their local paper; will there be an uproar in the Sooner State then?
