Global Warming, Its Not Just For Earthlings Anymore!

Is Al “internet inventor” Gore hearing Marvin The Martian’s cries for help? This news may be the nudge Big Al needed to officially enter the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Climate change hits Mars

Mars is being hit by rapid climate change and it is happening so fast that the red planet could lose its southern ice cap, writes Jonathan Leake. Scientists from Nasa say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period.Since there is no known life on Mars it suggests rapid changes in planetary climates could be natural phenomena.

If man can have a God-like impact on the climate of Earth, why not attribute the apparent warming affecting Mars to we callous humans? Global warming is no longer limited to our globe. A liberal seeker of a sense of self-importance such as Al “the inspiration for A Love Story” Gore is sure to see the potential advantage of championing a cause that extends even beyond our atmosphere.

This man has heroically traveled the globe (polluting the air and promoting his movie) to deliver his message of impending doom. He has been ahead of any of the current demoncrat (not a spelling error) contenders when it comes to man’s destructive impact on our climate…and now the catastrophic effects global warming may be present on other planets. We could have a candidate whose mission is to save the universe! How does one top that?

All Al needs to do is come out with a statement in which he connects the following human atrocities to the calamity on Mars:

  •         Pollution from industry (big business)

  •         Pollution from transportation (cars, planes, trains, etc. are produced and sold by big business and often used in transacting big business)

  •         Carbon dioxide pollution from the annoying habit we humans have of exhaling (man being selfish, much like those involved in big business)

  •         Cow emissions (would PETA allow cattle to be fitted with plugs?)

This could be your crowning moment, Mr. Gore. You may even be able to sell yourself more offsets in the wake of this.

Is the ability to sing or act a sign of moral superiority?

Published by Sam Pierce under General Common Sense

It never ceases to amaze me how some singers, actors, and comedians believe they have the moral compass by which all common people are to be guided. Of course as bearers of the compass, they do not need to follow its needle… certainly guiding others and purchasing offsets is sufficient.

It is my understanding that Rosie O’Donnell has a problem with a commoner owning a firearm. It seems we average citizens couldn’t be trusted to responsibly own or carry a gun. She has deemed that the only celebrities such as herself require and indeed deserve protection from violent attacks. This do as I say, not as I do sense of self importance would explain the fact that her royal Rosieness has at least one armed bodyguard.

Sheryl Crow is crusading in three semis, four buses, and a few cars to save the Earth from carbon emissions and deforestation. Of course her traveling convoy could create a conundrum, or even give the appearance of hypocrisy. Never fear, not only is Ms. Crow doing her part to conserve by not eating on a regular basis, she has come up with a simple plan to save the trees and thus absorb the nasty carbon dioxide. This bold idea is not necessarily new… as a matter of fact it predates the invention of toilet paper! Okay, I exaggerated, it doesn’t go back to a time when no toilet paper was used. It does, however, involve wiping with only one square per sitting… unless of course she has all twelve Groelsch beers and all six local beers (apparently one of her touring demands) in one evening, then she may require the maximum limit of three squares the next morning.

“Hi, I’m Alec Baldwin. Like all parents I’m concerned about the health of children.” Something along those lines is the way his annoying radio commercial for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s web site kidsgethealthy.org begins. Apparently he cares about the well being of children… unless they forget to turn on their cellphones and cause humiliation to the down trodden parent who had to excuse himself from a dinner party to make a scheduled call! Of course he has been through so much these last six years and his split with Kim Basinger has been very contentious. Any compassionate person could understand this man calling his own eleven year old daughter a pig, right?

A legal concealed firearm might have saved lives at Virginia Tech

Published by Sam Pierce under General Common Sense

We by now have all heard of the horrifying mass shooting at Virginia Tech today. It is a terrible tragedy and I can’t imagine what the families of the victims are going through.  I pray that they will find a way to cope with their losses and that a tragedy like this never happens again.

I heard something on the radio about a ban on concealed weapons at Virginia Tech so I did a search and found this article on Roanoke.com: http://www.roanoke.com/news/nrv/wb/xp-21770

I have always believed that in the event of a shooting spree, lives may be saved if a potential victim or witness happens to be carrying a gun. Today, with the death toll at 33, including the killer, I am wondering if that number might have been considerably lower if the ban were not in place. This is not intended to assign blame on the University, but to provoke thought on possible ways to protect potential victims of violent crime.

Think about the killer. He was not a law abiding citizen, as today’s actions proved. The ban and laws that prohibit carrying concealed weapons only affect law abiding citizens! Such bans and laws make it easier for this type of slaughter to occur by ensuring that potential victims remain unarmed.

I fail to see the logic in these rules that protect and in a way encourage the criminal.

Some thoughts on Global Warming and Rudy Giuliani

I was thinking the other morning, as I scraped the ice from my windshield, maybe there is something to global warming after all. I don’t remember Southern Illinois being this cold in April. Perhaps climate change is a real problem. My charitable instincts are urging me to send a check to Al Gore to help him pay for his carbon offsets (which he apparently buys from his own company) so he can pursue the noble crusade with even more vigor!

Later that day I was thinking about the potential ramifications of Rudy Giuliani winning the Republican nomination for President. I was trying to determine if I could cast my vote for him with a clear conscience. After all, wouldn’t he be far better than Hillary “bringing socialism back” Clinton, Barack Hussein Obama, or the spirit channeling personification of the reason health insurace costs are so high (John “the hair” Edwards?) My initial response was, yes, he would be undoubtedly better than any liberal candidate…. but there is still a problem. How important is the abortion issue? To me that is something I can’t get past. I gave myself a simple test to determine if the abortion issue would preclude me from voting for Giuliani. I asked myself what issue could be chosen as more important than abortion. If there was an issue more important maybe I could vote for him based on a conservative view he holds on that particular issue and hope he only appoints constructionist justices as he has indicated he would. No issue I could think of met the importance criteria. At the risk of sounding like John Edwards channeling the spirit of a dead child to win a lawsuit, I thought, “If the millions of babies who were killed in the womb could be polled, what issue would take precedence over abortion?” My test resulted in the realization that while I admire some aspects of Giuliani’s character, I cannot cast a vote for anyone that refuses to protect the most innocent of people.

This post is the beginning of what I hope to be a way of communicating what I see as important to anyone who cares to read it.
