President Bush: “I’ll see you at the bill signing.”

”I’ll see you at the bill signing,” Bush said confidently about an immigration bill that has run into deep trouble on Capitol Hill.

It seems President Bush is determined to override the will of the people. He is apparently going to return to Capitol Hill wearing his best used car salesman suit and meet with Senate Republicans to put them in their place. Picture the scene:

The Senate Republicans (except those that pushed the immigration bill and voted for cloture) are seated at small tables in front of a grand stage. On the stage is a grand podium with the flags of Mexico and The United States displayed with equal prominence. Behind the podium sits Teddy Kennedy in an ornate chair that resembles a throne. On either side of the swimmer the senators that supported amnesty are lined up in less ostentatious chairs. In the back of the room Teddy’s personal bartender is preparing drinks for the senators as a sign of good will. John McCain comes to the podium and addresses his colleagues as “my friends” and breaks into a chorus of “Bomb Iran.” After receiving minimal laughter, McCain looks to Kennedy and Teddy drunkenly nods. McCain turns back to the audience and introduces “his friend, President George Bush!” The President strolls out to the podium shaking the hands of the senators that supported this bill and stopping in front of Teddy to bow. He then comes to the podium where McCain slaps him on the back and gives one of his signature wheezing “Hee Hee’s.” The President turns and gives the crowd a stern look and begins to present his reasons for supporting this particular bill. (Summary of reasons: He thinks it is the thing to do. Period.)

I am somewhat torn, not on this issue but on the president’s convictions. On one hand it is admirable to defend what one believes to be right. On the other hand it is alarming that someone I believed in could think that legalizing the portion of 12 to 20 million illegal aliens that come forward (I have doubts about the numbers that will actually come forward) before the people around the world that actually want to become assimilated citizens is morally right.

This seeems like a direct slap in the face to every American citizen and a direct punch to the gut to every naturalized citizen and green card holder that followed the rules to come into our country properly. If President Bush wants to go full bore on this travesty I say lets go all the way! Here are some suggested amendments that would only enhance this bill and yet maintain its spirit:

Offer tax breaks to companies that hire only illegal inmmigrants.

Offer low interest loans to businesses that use the “under the table” payroll method.

Proclaim Spanish as the official language of the United States.

Outline stricter sentencing guidelines to be imposed on border patrol agents that attempt to guard the border.

Revive the fairness doctrine to tell the “loud people” to “just shut up!” in the immortal words of Senator Graham.

Propose a tax increase to pay for the state run television network and pay the forces that will be used to shut down non-government sanctioned television.

Dictate that any taxpayer whose house is above a certain size in relation to the number of residents open it to an apropriate number of Harry Reid’s “undocumented Americans.”

This list is by no means inclusive. I am sure that the folks who crafted SB 1348 can add to it and really give it to the country!

Great article. I can picture the scene as you describe it. Gaul and nerve are the two terms that come to mind. Bush has gone from the Cowboy President intent on protecting this country, to … a fine liberal. At least when it comes to illegal aliens and Mexico.

I don’t believe in conspiracies, but I’m beginning to think Bush some unknown motives or connections to Mexico.
