Michael Chertoff Needs Dr. Laura… Or Better Yet Laura Ingraham!
Michael Chertoff can’t perform his job properly unless the illegal aliens in our country are given the opportunity to be legalized. This seems like an odd concept but from what I read at the following link, this must be his thinking.
Chertoff scolds senate for failing to pass immigration reform bill
Here are a few gems from the article:
“We’re going to continue to enforce the law. It’s going to be tough,” Michael Chertoff said. “We don’t really have the ability to enforce the law with respect to illegal work in this country in a way that’s truly effective.”
Chertoff said Senate opponents deprived his department of the ability to ensure stricter enforcement by requiring companies to enter in a system to check their employees’ work status. “That would be the single greatest additional weapon we could use if we’re serious about tackling this problem,” he said. “But we will do what we have to do with the resources we have at our disposal.”
“I think we’re going to say to the members of Congress who think they have a better way that they should produce legislation and pass legislation, which they have not done for the past two years,” Chertoff said.
Apparently Homeland Security is not equipped to enforce the laws. Or is Michael Chertoff simply parroting the Bush administration opinion on immigration reform? Is it possible that the administration is so offended that the common people voiced opposition to their comprehensive bipartisan train wreck that they really can’t perform their duties? Maybe Michael Chertoff should call Dr. Laura, she might be able to get him back on track emotionally. Actually Mike Gravel could refer him to Laura Ingraham, who he seems to think is Dr. Laura, for some solid advice. She could tell him to E.T.L. or Enforce The Law!
Common sense dictates a few principles that would provide a good basis for a solution:
Secure the border with a wall or impregnable fence!
Cooperate! (Law enforcement of all types can share information.)
Punish employers that hire illegals!
Allow employers to legally reject applicants that do not have valid identification!
As illegals are found, send them back!
Realize that the sad images of separated families can be resolved by reunification…. Back in their native countries!
The bottom line, Secretary Chertoff, is to close the border and remove the incentives for people to be here illegally!
