British plans to emulate H. G. Wells’ “Island of Dr. Moreau”
From The Guardian:
Human-animal embryo study wins approval
“Plans to allow British scientists to create human-animal embryos are expected to be approved tomorrow by the government’s fertility regulator. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority published its long-awaited public consultation on the controversial research yesterday, revealing that a majority of people were “at ease” with scientists creating the hybrid embryos.”
The idea that a majority of people might be “at ease with scientists creating hybrid embryos” is a disturbing indicator of the lack of ethics and morality in modern society. God is continuously being driven out of public life and the ramifications are showing. Scientists that want to be God-like themselves, are acceptable to a population that has been numbed to morality.
Genetic research that requires human embryo destruction is a terrible ends-justify-the-means activity. The idea that innocent human life can be sacrificed in order to possibly find a cure for some disease shows a lack of respect for human life. Apparently the only lives that matter are ones that have had time to be jaded and subject to a loss of innocence. Of course picking a moment to start recognizing a child as a child is of little consequence to a person that sees an embryo as some sort of scientific Mr. Potatohead kit.
I personally enjoyed the 1977 movie based on H. G. Wells’ “The Island of Dr. Moreau.” It was entertaining to someone who enjoyed science fiction. The 2007 version, about to begin in Britain, is frightening.
