GOP is short on cash… yet they still want to extort votes for Giuliani!
I had a “duh!” moment this afternoon when I opened my Newsmax.com Insider Report I read that the “GOP is facing money woes in ‘08.” Here is part of the report:
[begin excerpt]”The Republican Party is hoping to bounce back next year from its disastrous showing in the 2006 elections, but financial problems could torpedo the GOP’s counterattack.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised $23.4 million during the first three quarters of this year, $5 million less than it raised in the same period in 2005 in preparation for the 2006 elections. The Democrats, on the other hand, raised $42 million, a $10 million increase over its 2005 three-quarters total.
The NRSC now has $8.3 million in the bank, while the Democrats’ cash balance at the end of the third quarter was $23 million.
“Unless Republicans can pick up the pace, they face going into a hostile 2008 election with less money and more contested seats than they had last year,” The Politico reports.[end excerpt]
Some conservatives, such as myself, have been so disgusted by the amnesty, sovereignty endangering trade agreements, and big spending ways endorsed by the RNC recently, that we have closed our wallets. Closed them to the party, that is. Some of us have focused our contributions on specific candidates and causes that represent our …. and this will shock the insulated elites in the party… VALUES!!!!!!!!!!
RNC, I know you are not familiar with the word, values, but you may want to consider learning its meaning. The pundits and and many of the “conservative” talk show hosts seem to be gearing up to ignore the word once again while engaging in vote extortion. Over the top? Maybe in your opinion, not mine. Extortion seems to describe the activities of the elites pretty accurately. To me the question isn’t whether or not it is extortion, it is why the Hell are they engaging in it!?!
The talk show hosts (disclaimer: Laura Ingraham and Mike Church thankfully don’t seem to be enamored with Giuliani) generally like to equate a refusal to vote for Giuliani as either a vote or half a vote for Hillary. These same hosts can’t seem to comprehend that that little word, values for your benefit Mr. Limbaugh and Mr. Hannity, does matter to some people. As icing on the cake, they choose to ignore the seemingly important… here comes another one of those seemingly lost words in the RNC elite vocabulary… FACT that by nominating Giuliani, they are taking big issues off the table!
Pro-life issue - off the table!
Illegal immigration - off the table!
Family values - you guessed it, off the table!
Why are these issues off the table? Well, I’ll tell you. There isn’t a great deal of difference between Rudy and the rest of the Democrat candidates on these issues.
What was that? Rudy says he’ll nominate strict constructionist justices? Let’s go with what he says to get elected, let’s not consider his demonstrated views.
Come again? Rudy says the border should be secured? Let’s go with what he says now, let’s ignore the pride he took in running a sanctuary city in New York. Let’s also ignore his past statements that it would not be possible to secure the entire border (or something along those lines.)
Last week I heard one of the “conservative” radio talk show hosts answer a concern over Rudy pulling something along the lines of the recent comprehensive immigration reform by telling the caller that we rose up against it this year and we could do it again. He also said “good luck trying to do that with Hillary in office.” Therefore the idea is to nominate a candidate that we expect to have to vocally and strongly oppose on the big issues of our time. What is the logic here? Is it the old refrain that Rudy, alone can beat Hillary? Let’s ignore the senate race and the fact that you are taking three big issues off the table and you may be on to something.
There are wonderful men seeking the Republican nomination for president. There are men in that group that would be as good or better than Rudy on terror and taxes (Rudy’s only issues.) The bonus with those other men is that they have defensible positions on those big issues on which Giuliani is disturbingly deficient.
Perhaps someone can explain to me why the Republican elites wish to extort our votes and how they can be so obtuse as to not realize why they can’t solicit contributions. I am thinking there is yet another phrase that these oh so knowledgable elites might want to become familiar with… COMMON SENSE!
