Abstinence causes pregnancy?
That is the impression I get from the article: “The Jamie Lynn Generation” by Cristina Page.
That doesn’t sound quite right. I thought that engaging in sexual intercourse, not refraining from it, caused a woman to become pregnant. Well, I guess at the ripe old age of 37 I still have a lot to learn about the birds and the bees… or maybe I should bear in mind that Cristina Page writes for Huffington Post.
Laurie David writes for Huffington Post once in a while, I wonder if we will be seeing a sister column explaining how man made global warming is causing teen pregnancy. Warmer temperatures lead to less clothing and so on.
Alec Baldwin, who also writes for HuffPo, may write about how a combination of the war in Iraq and fathers not verbally abusing their young daughters in phone messages causes teen pregnancy.
The B-list celebrity columnists would be at least as on target as Ms. Page in their assessments. Poor Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant and we must blame the policy of teaching abstinence first. Stated another way, poor Jamie Lynn Spears is an under-privileged youth who needed Hillary’s village to teach her how to avoid becoming pregnant. Isn’t it always the poor, economically disadvantaged children who are at risk? If the Spears family had only made a reasonable income, something above poverty level, Jamie Lynn might have known how one becomes pregnant.
Perhaps common sense could be of some use here. Call me crazy, but I have a hard time believing that Jamie Lynn’s parents don’t know what causes pregnancy. Then again, their parenting to this point leaves room to wonder. Government policy does not cause pregnancy. Parents are incredibly negligent if they depend on others to educate their children on sex. Parents, not government need to make decisions regarding their children. It may be true that we have allowed liberal government to encroach upon our lives to such a degree that some might see the encroachment as an acceptable norm, but that does not excuse parents from their responsibilities.
Oh no HuffPo, I used the “R” word! That is almost as bad as the “P” word and I used the two together! The idea of parental responsibility for their children in regards to the shaping of their morals conflicts with the liberally accepted notion that public school teachers should be instructing students on the merits of doing whatever gives pleasure and aborting any child that might be inconvenient. Those who want laws out of the bedroom and off their bodies seem to want government involvement in the same areas.
I am getting confused. Lets see if I understand the liberal position on teen pregnancy and sex education. The government should dictate that public school teachers should demonstrate to six year olds how to put a condom on a banana in order to prevent economically disadvantaged child stars from becoming pregnant. That at least remains consistent with their adamant demands that parents not be notified in the case of minors seeking abortions. Kill the baby, protect the statutory rapist, and remove parents from the child rearing… the village rules.
