Enviro-nuts Doing Their Part to Maintain High Gas Prices

Citizens of Illinois, ever wonder where you could go to get a firsthand look at the factors that drive the cost of gas to such unacceptable levels? Well look no further than the ConocoPhillips refinery in Roxana, IL! The Telegraph gleefully reports “ConocoPhillips’ expansion in limbo after challenge to permit upheld.”

Environmentalists are celebrating what they said Friday was a big victory after a U.S. EPA decision to send ConocoPhillips’ plans for a multi-billion-dollar expansion of its Wood River Refinery back to the drawing board.

However, Melissa Erker, a spokeswoman for the refiner’s facility in Roxana, said the company did everything its officials thought was right in obtaining a permit under the Clean Air Act and will continue to seek to correct the regulatory problems.

Which party usually panders to the Environmental Socialists again? Oh, that’s right, its the Democrats. I thought they were concerned about the price of gas and employment. Weird. I must have been mistaken… but then again, maybe I wasn’t. You see, liberal politicians are concerned about whatever the particular group to which they may need to pander are concerned about. So citizens of the St. Louis Metro-east, they would like nothing more for you to have good paying jobs and lower fuel costs. That is until you leave the room and the bark-humpers enter.

Al Gore and Sheryl Crow would certainly approve of the actions of the enviro-nazis:

A big part of the dispute is a difference between the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s view of carbon dioxide emissions during “flaring,” a process in which waste gases from the refining process are burned.

The state agency has no standards for carbon dioxide emissions during flaring, but the environmental groups claimed they should. They argued before a U.S. EPA appeals panel that statutory and case law supports their claim that the state should require the best technology available in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The plaintiffs cited the type of flaring equipment required in California as the example of the best technology available. The state EPA should have allowed public comment on that subject, they argued.

Did you get that? Illinois has no standards on the books for “flaring” so some group of environmentalist human-haters insists they adopt California’s standards, even though the Illinois EPA had already granted an expansion permit. Money is no object because apparently there have been “record profits!” Imagine how much of those “record profits” could be used for exploration, expansion, and research… if the wastes of space in government and the psychotic environmentalists would step out of the way.

What is even worse is that the high cost of gas will probably cause some people to vote for Democrats this fall. How twisted is that? Pain at the pump is going to inspire people to vote for the party that promises to make it better while their every action could only make it worse! Wasn’t Nancy Pelosi going to take care of gas prices? Don’t blame me, I vote for conservatives (when they are running.)

Awesome blog. The Lieberman-Warner Bill was an even bigger joke and a smack in the face that would have resulted in even higher gas prices, a 44 percent increase in energy costs, and the exporting of even more American jobs to foreign soil. The Democrats aren’t concerned with the little man; they’re concerned with power and increasing the size of government through regulation and embedded taxes at the expense of the little man.

yea i live in woodriver illinois & trust me ” human haters ” didnt do this ! the people of madison county illinois did this ! we have been the dumping grounds for this refinery for over 90 years its in our backyard & we have every right to block it anyway we can ! understand this , conoco takes air samples in our county & submit them to the epa in order to get permits to operate ! they investigate themselves for pollution ! the people of madison county know they fudge the facts ! were not asking them to get there plant up to what should be todays standards , were asking that when they do there expansion that it is up to the highest standards today . so its actually the people of madison county illinois who want these standards put in place before anymore polluting is done in our county ! if conoco would just fork over the extra cash to do it it wouldnt be a problem ! so you see the human haters are actually conoco & its affiliates who are managing this project ! i would also like to point out that it is the oil companys who creating a scarcity in oil thus driving the price up ! im not a tree hugger , i belong to no groups , i say all this as a citizen of madison county illinois !

    Bob,

I lived most of my life in Madison County. I thank God every day that I found a job that allowed me the chance to move my family out of the frivolous lawsuit, high medical insurance capitol. I am aware that Madison County is mostly comprised of Democrats and am not surprised to learn that it was citizens of my former home county that decided to stifle job creation and help maintain high fuel costs, that is right up the old liberal alley.
