This happened a couple days ago, but I haven’t had time to blog it until today because of insanely long cross-country travel as well as getting settled back into school life. It appears that the desired amendment (to prevent restrictions on the free speech grassroots organizations - namely Christian and pro-life groups) was passed in the Senate. However, every organization that has notified me about the amendment still emphasizes that it is a temporary solution at best:
Jay Sekulow, of the American Center for Law and Justice said, however, that while it’s good the troubling language was removed from the Senate plan, “we’re still deeply concerned that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others will attempt to push through these dangerous restrictions in the House... We are thankful for the victory in the Senate but will now turn up the pressure on the House,” he said. “We urge House members to do the right thing and reject this legislation that is not only unacceptable but unconstitutional as well.”
This will be something to watch for in the upcoming weeks during House sessions. I wonder if Rep. Cubin will manage to show up for the vote? I noticed that she did vote on some important bills concerning oil, minimum wage, and other issues she must have felt were important to Wyoming. Are constitutional issues on the federal level (specifically pro-life) simply unimportant to her? I guess we will see.
