Present-day Sanhedrin court seeks to revive ancient Temple rituals

The present-day Sanhedrin Court decided Tuesday to purchase a herd of sheep for ritual sacrifice at the site of the Temple on the eve of Passover, conditions on the Temple Mount permitting.

The modern Sanhedrin was established several years ago and is headed by Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz. It claims to be renewing the ancient Jewish high court, which existed until roughly 1600 years ago, and meets once a week.

Professor Hillel Weiss, a member of the Sanhedrin, told Haaretz on Tuesday that the action, even if merely symbolic, is designed to demonstrate in a way that is obvious to all that the expectation of Temple rituals will resume is real, and not just talk.

I always wondered how Jews justified being Jews without performing all of the sacrifices and rituals mentioned in the Old Testament. Turns out they have a lot of rabbinic laws and traditions established after the Old Testament that exempts them from such. However, it would appear that the movement to return to the Biblical laws is growing.

Sure makes me glad that Jesus was the perfect sacrifice and we no longer have to sacrifice animals for our sins. However, I do know of prophecy in the Old Testament that points to the Jews starting up sacrifices again. I’ll look into that and get back to you. In the mean time, maybe someone like Neil will drop by and help us out.

There are some prophecies that point to the restoration of the Temple sacrifices (something that will require digging through notes, books, and of course the Bible).

Also I’ve heard that a lot of the Temple relics are being held deep in the Vatican and that Jewish leaders have been in negotiation with the leaders of the RCC.

Praise God that His Son came to willingly fulfill the Law perfectly and become our High Priest (Heb. 4:15-16).

I’m back. I found a great link regarding this post by a reputable ministry. Simply fascinating reading. You might have time to look at it over the weekend, though I know you are a busy kid.

With regard to the prophetic significance of these events, I see the revival of the Sanhedrin as one more step toward the rebuilding of a Jewish Temple. The Bible clearly states that another Temple will be built before the Lord’s Second Coming occurs. The Old Testament prophet Daniel referred to it in Daniel 9:27. Jesus made mention of it in Matthew 24:15. The apostle Paul wrote about it in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. And the apostle John mentioned it in Revelation 11:1.

Keep in mind that he is saying before the Lord’s Second Coming, which we know is after the Rapture. Therefore, this is a sign that the Rapture is near. YES!

The Need for a Catalyst
The mystery is what event will bring all these efforts together to launch the building of a Third Temple. Right now there is no interest at all among the general public in Israel concerning the construction of a Temple. In fact, the overwhelming majority of Israelis are strongly opposed to any effort to rebuild the Temple because they know it would spark a war with the Muslim world.
You have to understand that the average Israeli is religiously non-observant. Many are agnostics or atheists who are very secu¬lar and who hold the Orthodox Jews in contempt. Their only interest in a Temple is to keep the Orthodox (who constitute about 13% of the population) from pursuing their dream of a Temple. Something dramatic will have to occur to change this attitude. What will it be?
My best guess at the moment is that it will be the discovery of the Ark of the Covenant. I think such a discovery would ignite a renewed interest in the Hebrew Scriptures. I also believe it could motivate a surge of Jewish nationalism and pride.
We are living in exciting times when we can witness the fulfillment of Bible prophecy first hand. And what is more exciting is the realization that the fulfillment of those prophecies point to the soon return of our Messiah.

Hi Tammi and Scott,

I was wondering, do either of you know where there’s reliable information as to the US relation to the world in the end times?

I wonder if anyone has discussed the unneccessary resumption of wholesale animal sacrifice and reinstitution of ancient Hebrew customs and law with these folks?

Most of what I’ve seen (which isn’t much) says that the US is not a major power player in world politics post-rapture (and maybe even slightly pre-rapture). There are some sources that say the US maintains its current role through the Tribulation. I’ll have to do some digging to find the sources…
