UK Profs “Consider” Boycotting Israeli Academics

The latest exhibition of Israel-o-phobia:

UK lecturers support Israel boycott call

Britain’s University and College Union (UCU), comprising of university academics, voted in favor of considering a boycott of Israeli academics and institutions at its conference in Bournemouth on Thursday evening.

The resolution, passed by 158 votes in favor and 99 against, “notes that Israel’s 40-year occupation has seriously damaged the fabric of Palestinian society through annexation, illegal settlement, collective punishment and restriction of movement… deplores the denial of educational rights for Palestinians by invasions, closures, checkpoints, curfews, and shootings and arrests of teachers, lecturers and students.

First of all, how typically academic of them. They voted in favor of considering a boycott. Even when professors and lecturers of academia are pursuing something they believe most strongly in, they don’t even have the balls to actually follow through with the plan. But by golly, they’re considering it. Aren’t you scared?

Another possible reason why the British snobs are only considering the boycott:

Ronnie Fraser, Chairman of the Academic Friends of Israel organization, who spoke during the debate, said that Britain was the only country in Europe seeking a boycott of Israel.

“There will be very little take up of this issue because Israeli academica is premier league, everyone wants to work with them,” Fraser said. “There are 500 current projects involving Israeli academics in the EU framework. Europe is not interested in a boycott or a moratorium, and its going to have absolutely no effect.”

If only those Jews weren’t so darn smart. I feel like this is probably similar to the emotion felt by politicians and pundits who claim that America’s relationship with Israel is harmful for our foreign policy… If only those Jews weren’t so darn technologically advanced.

And, you know, who really cares if the Israelis are actually civilized and do not believe in barbaric attacks on innocent civilians? They are just too mean.

Concerning the British academics’ concern about the poor ripped and torn fabric of Palestinian society, I think the American Israeli Patriot says it best:

Naturally, there is no mention as to why there are “invasions, closures, checkpoints, curfews, and shootings and arrests of teachers, lecturers and students.” Could it be that Israel is trying to thwart terrorist attacks? Apparently, that is no concern to the UCU if little Mohammad can’t go to kindergarten and watch Jihad Mouse with his wanna be suicide bomber classmates.

Why isn’t the UCU offering scholarships to these poor prodigies? Nuclear Physics would be a very popular curriculum for this bunch. How about Advanced Chemistry? Rocket Science?

Exactly. Why doesn’t the UCU put their money where their mouths are? Perhaps they feel that the investment is too risky? It’s true, London seems to have more than enough problems with the Mohammad+bombs=BFF crowd right now.

I have to admit, though, my favorite quote of the day (I’ve been following the various stories from JPost, Ynet, and Haaretz) would have to be from Ynet’s “‘Israel being ostracized’“:

In Israel, the boycott debate was dismissed by Professor Menachem Kellner, Professor of Jewish Thought at Haifa University.”I’m very disappointed by the British,” he said. “This whole story is not serious. I know that a large percentage of those voting don’t have a clue what’s happening here in the Middle East. Although they’re academics, they swallow rhetoric without checking it though,” he added.

I would argue that it is because they are academics, they swallow rhetoric — especially when it falls right in line with their generally anti-Israel philosophy.

Update: I just noticed that Angel over at Woman Honor Thyself also has a post up about the UK boycott. She makes a great point about the obvious double standard here.

U.S. Frees 42 al-Qaida Captives in Raid - Just the latest act of horror by the terrorists over in the quagmire… that is the latest politically correct terminology, right?

Some of the freed Iraqis had been held for as long as four months and some had injuries from torture and were being taken to medical facilities for treatment, he said.

Poland May Appeal European Court’s Ruling on Woman’s Denied Abortion - An interesting case, to be sure. Was this woman’s eyesight more valuable than her (at that time) unborn child? Eyesight vs. life. You can probably guess where I stand.

The Good Samaritan, Generosity, and Illegal Immigration - Column by Frank Pastore (whom I have never heard of / read before) about how Christians should approach illegal immigration. Pretty solid scriptural analysis, if you ask me.

“Christian” supporters of open borders and amnesty using carefully-selected Bible verses need to be honest. Call your attempt to be generous with the property of others what it is: a form of theft. And call your socio-economic political public policy what it is: socialism.

Gaza baby treated at Israeli hospital - I have to wonder that if the circumstances were reversed, would the Palestinians go through the same trouble to save an Israeli Jewish baby? The answer is no. No, and not necessarily because the Palestinians wouldn’t save a Jewish baby. If the circumstances were reversed, there would simply be no Israel.

Journalism

Confession:
I read Pearls Before Swine on a daily basis. Almost religiously. I can’t get enough. Yes, it can be a little liberal sometimes, but it is so funny.

Anyway, this strip from the other day struck me as a spot-on description of most TV journalists - whether they are local or national, CNN or Fox.

Unfortunate, but true.

(HUGE thanks to mommyzabs for helping me figure out how to size the strip so it isn’t cut off by my layout.)

American Idol Winner Jordin Sparks a Pro-Life Advocate

From Lifenews.com, one of the most encouraging stories I’ve seen in a while:

After coming under fire last month for an anti-poverty campaign that funneled money to pro-abortion groups, the popular musical talent show American Idol has produced a new winner in Jordin Sparks who is a long-time pro-life advocate. Sparks has repeatedly participated in pro-life conferences as a volunteer and singer.

A little bit of sweet irony, isn’t it? Seriously, Jordin Sparks has a great opportunity here to draw more attention to the changing face of the pro-life movement. The pro-abortion crowd continuously perpetuates the idea that all pro-lifers are either 1) men or 2) women who are brainless, talentless slaves to their husbands.

It reminds me of when the angry feminist was screaming at us during Cemetery of the Innocents. I thinks she said something like, “You guys go to Cornell? I thought all the women here were intelligent. I guess I was wrong.” Ha, she definitely was wrong, but not because of me and my friends.

So, Sparks is young, talented, and passionately pro-life. I only hope that she uses her newfound fame as a platform to bring more attention to the horrors of abortion. I have no reason to think she won’t. :)

Congressman Kicks Some Pickpocket Butt

Well, Fox says: Congressman Foils Pickpocket in Washington, D.C., but I personally believe that the old guy was ready to kick some butt if need be.

WASHINGTON A New Jersey Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen refused to accept the outcome of an alleged mugging on Thursday night when he foiled a pickpocket attempt in Georgetown.

The incident occurred as Frelinghuysen was walking near his D.C. residence around 9:30 p.m. ET. Police say the 61-year-old congressman was approached by a group of young men when he felt someone grab his wallet from behind.

The seven-term Republican ran after the young suspect just as two Metropolitan Police officers were driving by. They helped apprehend the suspect nearby. The search is still continuing for at least one other suspect.

Frelinghuysen, who represents the Morris County, N.J., area was not injured in the incident.

61-year-old Republican. :) Good for him.

If I had $350,000…

I would not spend it on this.

I’ve nothing against charity, just Mr. Clooney.
