Finally. I figured out the sporadic wireless internet here at the Best Western and I also managed to get my laptop charging at the press station. A friend suggested I just waltz back there and say I’m with the Lander Journal, but I told him I wasn’t interested in being associated with that crowd.
I believe the counting process is in it’s last stages and soon we should have the 10 finalists announced… Or is it quarter-finalists since there are two more rounds (down to 5 and then down to 3) after this one? Whatever.
If my counting is correct (which is not always guarenteed), 24 candidates showed up this morning to give their 2 minute speech. I believe 4 candidates have withdrawn their names from the race and 4-5 just decided not to show up for some reason. I count Ray Hunkins in the “here” category since his wife came up briefly and played a pre-recorded speech from him. Unfortunately, poor Rev. Collins keeps coming back. I wish he would just give it up because I know he must be a nice man… he’s just not presenting himself very well at all. One candidate that continues to impress me over and over is French. As far as I can tell, he’s the only candidate that has “Stop abortion” clearly stated in his application and speeches.
It looks like the tally is finished, so the announcement should be forthcoming.
And the 10 are…
- Sansonetti
- Barrasso
- Micheli
- Lummis
- Moore
- Mead
- Luthi
- Simpson
- Kruse
- Asay

Well, at least Case didn’t make the cut down to 10. I sure hope Simpson gets weeded out too.
Let’s hope for Sansonetti, Lummis, and Micheli
Congrats on beating the Casper Star Tribune blogger
Thanks for your excellent coverage of this whole process. I’m Larry French’s daughter, and I’ve been glad to read your coverage of him. He’s a wonderful man; I’m proud to be his daughter.
You beat the Casper Star?!?!?!?!? I bet they were waiting to see what you came up with since your coverage of Sunday was so much better than their’s
Mr. Sansonetti is my next favorite after Mr. French. Hurts to see moderates like Rep. Simpson, Sen. Case, and Mr. Stith get more votes than a solid conservative like Mr. French.
Thanks for keeping us in the know about what’s going on.
April - thanks so much for visiting my blog! I really liked your dad and the values he stood for. I wish he would have made it further along in the process. That said, I really think we have some good people in the final three. I know all three are solidly pro-life (which is the issue of utmost importance to me). What do you think?
Scott - Apparently my beating the CST is a little debatable, but they were inarguably on the ball for the rest of the afternoon (hence my link to them in a later post).
