Pageantry At Its Best

Because I cannot seem to successfully embed video into a post, I’m just going to link these next couple clips.

Perhaps you’ve already heard about Miss South Carolina Teen USA’s geography faux pas? (Yes, she did say “the Iraq”, among other things.)

Poor girl… Oh, who am I kidding? Call me evil, but I really can’t feel sorry for her! I mean, come on… maps?

Anyway, Ms. Underestimated has the best follow-up I’ve ever seen.

Such as, I’m still laughing.

Italian Abortion “Oops!” Moment

Italy Investigates Botched Abortion of Healthy Twin, Disabled Brother Lives

Short version:  Italian woman goes to have one of her twin boys aborted because he was diagnosed with Down Syndrome.  You know, those Europeans are so modern and tolerant.  Anyway, abortionist has an “oops!” moment and kills the healthy baby instead.  Woman finds out, goes back in to have her second son killed, then reports the abortionist to the police.

Rome, Italy (LifeNews.com) — Officials in Italy are investigating a botched abortion done on twin brothers where the healthy brother became the victim of the abortion and the twin, who has Down syndrome, lived. The disabled brother was the target of the abortion procedure and the case is raising the ugly specter of abortions done to kill disabled people. The abortion was done on a 38-year-old woman in June at a hospital in Milan, but news of the mistake only recently came to the public’s attention.

Doctors at the San Paolo hospital told Italian media that the babies moved during the abortion procedure and changed position compared to their locations during a pre-abrotion examination.

According to the London Guardian, hospital officials have given the proper paperwork and information to authorities.

After doctors realized their mistake, they notified the woman in question. She returned to the hospital to have the disabled baby aborted as well and then reported the doctors to the police.

The case has caused some in the political scene to call for a review of the nation’s abortion laws.

Leftist Senator Paola Binetti wrote in the Corriere della Sera newspaper that, “The time has come to re-examine the abortion law’ that dates back to 1978.”

“What happened in this hospital was not a medical abortion but an abortion done for the purposes of eugenics,” she said. “They wanted to kill the sick fetus and save the healthy one and what didn’t work properly in this business was the selection.”

Christian Democrat politician Luca Volonte also denounced the failed abortion as “infanticide arising from a contempt for human life.”

But pro-abortion Health Minister Livia Turco defended the pro-abortion laws as “very wise” and said they should not be changed.

This is the second time that an abortion planned for a disabled baby has gone wrong.

In March, a baby boy died who became the victim of an abortion after doctors failed a disability test on him. Physicians advised his mother to have an abortion after they had misdiagnosed a physical deformity but the boy survived the procedure.

Doctors at the teaching hospital Careggi performed two ultrasounds on the boy and his mother and they said he had a defective esophagus. That’s a disorder that surgery could have corrected after birth in some cases.

However, when they went to abort the baby boy, they discovered he was healthy and desperately tried to resuscitate him.

The boy was born healthy and lived for six days following the failed abortion, which was done at 22 weeks into the pregnancy.

Italy’s abortion law allows abortions up to 24 weeks of pregnancy in certain cases but it also requires doctors to do all they can to save the life of a baby who survives a botched abortion attempt.

There are about 138,000 abortions that take place annually in the European nation.

Dang those parasitic fetuses, moving when you least expect it.  It’s almost like they’re alive or something.  Well, at least the woman’s “problem” was solved, right?

“I want to get rid of that thing…”

For the past few years, Cornell has had a “ClubFest” at the beginning of the fall semester for new students to learn about the 300+ student organizations we have on campus.

I manned an informative table for our campus pro-life group for about 3 hours today and only came close to chucking our free candy at one person. The conversation went something like this:

Guy: What side of the issue are you on?
Me: (looking at the fetal models and all our pro-life literature) We’re pro-life.
Guy: So, you’re anti-abortion?
Me: Well, we believe that abortion hurts women and kills their children and that women have better options during an unexpected pregnancy.
Guy: Well… I’m against you guys. I mean, if I get a girl pregnant, I want to get rid of that thing.

Exactly. Abortion is all about a woman’s right, eh? Of course it’s not about guys refusing to take responsibility for their irresponsible sperm distribution. It’s not about them getting off scot-free and leaving the woman to clean up the mess.

Not at all.

Haemet Gets A Makeover!

MommyZabs, of mommyzabs.com and notchinamade.net, is an amazingly talented designer.

You may have noticed a couple weeks back that my mom’s Sunflower Desert had a wonderful (custom theme) makeover thanks to MZ and now Haemet has received the same luxury treatment! MZ’s own websites always look creative and professional and she took the few ideas I had of what I wanted Haemet to look like and created the brilliance that you see now. (I’m obviously pleased with her work!)
If you are at all interested in revamping your own blog, contact MZ at her website or through Girly Blog Designz for a price quote. :)

As a side note, I’m just getting settled into dorm life and classes again. Hopefully more regular blogging will resume since summer madness is over. I’m always better at blogging when I have major papers and projects to procrastinate! ;)

UPDATE: I’m experiencing some technical difficulties and my comments don’t appear to be working right now. FYI, it’s nothing MZ did, so you should still look into having her design your blog! ;)

UPDATE 2: We still have no idea what’s going on with the comments. However, I did figure out that you can comment if you right-click within the comment box and start typing. I’ve also started a topic on the WP Support Forums, so hopefully the problem will be solved soon.

UPDATE 3:  Problem solved.  Huge thanks to moshu at the WordPress Support Forum!

Nick Cannon: “Can I Live?”

I will always be a part of you
Trust your soul, know its always true
If I could talk to you, I would say to you
Can I live?

This video by rapper Nick Cannon is over two years old now, yet I had never watched it before today. Cannon, a well-known comedian, rapper, and tv star, had this to say shortly after the song was released:

“This record is extremely important to me and to our community. There are a lot of young mothers in need and have had to struggle to raise their children. I just wanted to recognize all the strong women who are raising children on their own like my mother had to do. Myself and my foundation really want to help these young women. If any of you out there know a single mother between the ages of 15-25 who may be having a difficult time I would love to hear the story. Please write to me and explain the condition and how I could possibly help. I will check the website and respond accordingly.”

So, while Cannon does not make a clear anti-abortion statement, I think the video and his effort to reach out to single mothers speak for themselves.

Earlier this year, Neil over at 4simpsons posted a video by hip hop group Flipsyde entitled “Happy Birthday.” Listening to this man ask what his child would have been had he not paid for his murder is heart-wrenching, to say the least.

There is another song/music video by Ben Folds Five called “Brick” — watch it here. Again, Folds makes no clear statement about abortion. In fact, I would not be surprised either way if he were pro-life or pro-choice. However, the story of the lyrics and the hurt in Folds’ voice seems to point in the direction that abortion is not some easy procedure that has no lasting effects.

Songs and videos like these show that abortion does not hurt only women and kill their children. Men are obviously affected as well.

NotChinaMade.net

With all the news lately surrounding the mass recalls of Mattel toys that were made in China, I feel like now is a good time to let you all know about a great new website: NotChinaMade.net, exploring the dangers of trading with China.

My good friend, MommyZabs, is the creator/author of Not China Made.

In the description of her site, MZ writes:

Before I take you any further on this blog I would like to first explain how I arrived to where I’m at. One day, while doing my typical blog surfing, I came upon a link that read 61 Christian Women forced to have abortions. Being avidly pro-life, I clicked it curious what I would find. I ended up on the China View Blog. What I read left me completely shocked.

While I had known for quite awhile that China practices population control through their one-child policy, and has always hated it, this time it penetrated much deeper. Reading the stories of my Christian brothers and sisters on the other side of the world having their almost to term, and sometimes at term babies, ripped out of their bodies tore a hole in my heart beat. Having a 2 children under the age of 4 it has not been long since I have felt my babies growing inside. The idea of doing your best to keep those babies alive and protect them from a government that wants them dead struck a new chord for me. The government deciding to suck life out of you and killing it with their bare hands if the baby somehow survived the process.

And that is only one reason why she started her new blog. I would really encourage you to add this to your daily reads.
