Scott,

I'm working on pro-life, pro-choice (and by "choice," I mean a lot more than abortion!) stuff for my school right now. We are trying to change the policies which make it extraordinarily difficult for young college women to be pregnant and parenting while finishing their education. The end result is that women are stuck with "Abortion, or else" - abortion, or drop out of school; abortion, or don't finish your degree; abortion, or transfer.

I even have a pro-choicer who is meeting with me on Friday to brainstorm. Anyway... I think that a lot of pro-choicers (except the whack jobs) really want to see things like this. IMHO, if you are against abortion, it can really help to promote viable options to it. (Pun not intended.) Once pro-choicers see the full range of options available to young women, and how the ready availability of abortion actually makes it more necessary (it creates its own exigency), they start to slide over to the pro-life camp.

So yes, it's contagious. ;)

Excellent post (and excellent comments too)! Something neat to consider is that passion for being pro-life can make an impact. I was just today talking with the Park County GOP precinct committeewoman that I ran into in Riverton and she mentioned that she was "a pro-choice Republican" on the abortion issue.

However, she was thoroughly impressed with the letter of support for Rep. Duncan Hunter that I wrote for distribution to the committee members, which spoke favorably of his pro-life credentials. In spite of that political difference (which she is looking at it more from the small/limited government stance), she has got my letter to the vice chair of the party to distribute across the state. Excitement is contagious.

Being pro-life is kind of like being pro-cupcake?!

I love that! I might have to replace my Will Rogers quote on my blog with that. :)

Oh my. I'm not sure how you can be Christian and not believe that every life is sacred; that free will can be used to bring us to God and to glorify Him; and that free will, by its nature, can be used to undermine God's plan.

While we have the capability to perform abortions, that does not mean that it is in line with God's will for our lives. While pregnancy is probably a huge PITA, the Bible is full of stories of God's intentions for His people to endure and suffer far more than a few months' worth of swollen ankles for Him.

Sigh.....

(Then again, as I've blogged about many times, you can also be an atheist and be pro-life; you can be a libertarian and be pro-life; in fact, you can be anything and be pro-life. As Mamma Alito said of her son, "Of course he's against abortion!" Being pro-life is kind of like being pro-cupcake - this is not a hard concept, people.)

Hi Steve, thanks for stopping by! I completely agree with you. I never want to get into the mess of saying whether or not individuals are truly saved (like you said, only God really knows), but I do believe that if they make public claims to follow the Christian faith, I have the right to analyze that claim in light of their actions. Obama's actions to not bode well for the Christianity taught in my Bible, that's for sure.

Tieki Ray,

As a Christian we know that only God knows our heart, but according to Obama's mouth I'd say that his name isn't written in the book of life. What he claims to believe and what the UCC claims to believe are quite opposed to what the Bible claims........steve
