Just noticed this at the Casper Star Tribune, Trauner tries again for House.
The gag-me-with-a-spoon money quote:
He thought about running again and talked with his family and friends, he said.
But the defining moment in his decision occurred a week or two ago after President Bush vetoed the bill to expand the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, and a man in a grocery store called a newspaper article about it to Trauner’s attention, he said.
“He looked at me and said, ‘You know what, Gary, I’m a Republican, but don’t we deserve better in Wyoming?’” Trauner said. “As I walked around the store for the rest of the morning, or at least for doing my shopping, I thought to myself, ‘You know, I need to run again.’”
And with that heartwarming story, we’re all so happy we’re puking rainbows.
Or, are we? I think Wyoming Senator John Barrasso hits the nail on the head regarding SCHIP,
“Congressional Democrats are hijacking the program and turning it into a massive new entitlement,” Barrasso added. “Their plan would allow families in
New York making $82,600 a year to get free insurance for children and adults. In my opinion, the hard working taxpayers of Wyoming shouldn’t be subsidizing the health insurance for a family of four in New York making over $80,000 a year.”
And here is the difference between Wyoming Republicans and Wyoming Democrats. For some reason, Wyoming Democrats think that the citizens of Wyoming ought to give more money to the federal government. As if the eastern liberals haven’t screwed us over enough with the wolves situation, let’s pay for their free health care too! Wyoming Democrats are stuck on stupid.
As if we need another reason to vote against Trauner, Scott over at Wyoming Vote Tracker posted a letter from Right to Life of Wyoming a couple days ago:
“Trauner would join his colleagues from California and New York in trying to force Wyoming residents to pay for abortions with our tax dollars,” Ertelt added. “Fortunately, Barbara Cubin has protected us for years from funding the abortion industry.”
…
“Barbara Cubin has backed measures that have strong support in Wyoming such as a ban on partial-birth abortions, making sure parents can be involved in the abortion decisions of their teenage daughters, and protecting pregnant women who are victims of violence,” Ertelt said.
Last I checked, Wyoming citizens were not in favor of infanticide and double homicide. What makes Trauner think he is even remotely qualified to represent us?

May Bill Luckett find your post.
In the meantime, why are people so retarded that they cannot see this stupid CHIP program as the libtard road to socialism? Seriously, no resource limits for applicants. This means, someone can drive new vehicle and pay the mortgage on a $400,000 home, which they can afford because there is no need to purchase health insurance when socialized medicine is available for free. Oh, right .. I FREAKING pay for their health care! This ticks me off beyond reason. Now our country is running on the slogan that every child is entitled to health insurance? Nothing like starting the entitlement mentality from birth. People need to grow up and be responsible for the children they have.
Thanks for the plug! The Dems are definitely pulling the wool over peoples eyes on the SCHIP thing. I’m sick of seeing Sen. Baucus (D-MT) on my TV (and I hardly watch any b/c of my schedule)!
I’ve been meaning to blog about SCHIP. I started it, with the post about the disparities in cost of health care between the states. It’s pretty obvious that if someone in NYC can’t afford health insurance while making $80,000/year, it’s because NY laws about health care make it so. It should not be incumbent upon the rest of the country to finance one state’s bad ideas. In fact, the exact opposite should happen: states who make bad decisions (such as regulating health care to the point of unaffordability) should feel the results thereof, see that other states do better, and change their laws to the benefit of everyone in the state.
Tammi,
Socialism is the point of all of this. Don’t you see it? If children can get health care when their parents make a lot of money (and will refuse employer-subsidised health care for their kids to save a few bucks), why not expand it to everyone? We do have a tremendously large welfare programme, but this is the first step towards divorcing health care from any sort of objective need. We can assume that the elderly and disabled cannot work, therefore cannot get employer insurance; we assume that children whose parents are screwing up have no means of rectifying the situation; and we like to help pregnant ladies. This is the first HUGE step in giving health insurance to those who could otherwise obtain such. Once we’re over that hurdle, hello HillaryCare (TM).
Update: Theo has blogged on the issue and attracted some left wing trolls. Excellent stuff.
Yeah, I eventually get around to blogging about this stuff. I think the trolls came out in force because it was researched, annotated, and linked up the wazoo. Facts also piss off liberal trolls - makes their case so much more difficult.
Hey Bridget,
You have really been a troll magnet lately! It is great for the stats, but they are such a pain in the rear.
So very true, Tammi. Stats went through the roof, but they just told me that I was mentally deficient and ran away.
Thankfully, TT, Washed & Forgiven, Sunday School Teacher, and In2theFray came out in full force to de-troll.
That’s just good friends helping to get rid of the bad rubbish.
OFF -TOPIC
My friend, I did a bad thing and need to apologize. About month ago, you made a post about a crazy thing one of your professors said. Thinking I was supporting you, I called him (Peter Kat-;zen-st-!ein) on it via email, but after talking it over with a few people I decided I may have done more harm than good. I forgot that professors can give bad grades to people who disagree with them. I didn’t mention you by name, or even that my info was from a student, but it’s possible he has some kind of uber-google experience, and can figure out how his heinous words are leaking out (I dashed his name this time, just in case).
If it turns out that you get a grade you didn’t deserve from that guy, post about it, and I will do my best to make it right. I bet you don’t have any problem at all, but someone makes me admit it when I make mistakes that might hurt other people, regardless that it’s unintentionally done. From what I understand about your family, you know him!
We have spent enough money on a failed war in Iraq to fund a catastrophic health care plan for all us citizens. It is high time to get the government off the backs of the small businessman and
individual trying to secure a decent, affordable health plan for themselves and their employees This would eliminate everyone who ends up paying for ill illegal aliens. The plan would be put out for transparent bids every two years and five reps from each state could review the process kind of like jury duty. The insurance companies could then compete for supplemental coverage. Why can’t other fellow republicans see the clarity in a large pooled plan until they get sick or bankrupted by the current system. That is why I am calling for all elected officials to defer the generous health plans and benefits until
an affordable program is made available to all us citizens.
