Dating: Liberals vs. Conservatives

Following a rabbit trail of blog links yesterday, I came across this interview of six conservative bloggers via Michelle Malkin.

Immediately, I thought of this comic I have taped to my wall:

Why would anyone want to date someone from the Phylum Democrata?

[On a slightly more serious note, I can’t imagine dating a liberal/Democrat. If you don’t have any values in common, what’s the point? Plus, everyone knows liberals are sissies. Sure, their love of indie music and chuck taylors can be attractive, but their baby-killing, tax-raising, gun-control-loving tendencies are not!]

How funny! This isn’t a reaction to the picture I posted in reaction to the link you posted, is it?

I have to admit I would have a hard time pursuing a relationship leading to marriage if the potential bride had political and/or religious beliefs that were vastly different to mine, especially since I eloped last night. I mean, if marriage us supposed to be a fairly joyous institution, how could two be happy sharing a roof and everything else when being so divided on assorted beliefs? Granted there are some famous Cowboy State exceptions; Rep. Colin and Deb Simpson are politically different on certain major issues (she being more conservative), and at the time of her marriage taking place, Cynthia Lummis was wed for many years to a Democrat (he has since changed to Republican). So I suppose it’s possible for a great lasting marriage with different political beliefs; just rare.

Oh, and regarding that line about eloping: APRIL FOOLS!!!!!!

I found, courted, and am now engaged to a wonderful conservative.

    A Texan no less.

And I’m making her more conservative because she’s smart and works and thinks rationally (more rationally than me usually: she’s much more linear than me).

    Totally with you there Tiki.

Ditto that! I came across that from Dawn Eden’s blog.

I used to think that cross-political dating was okay. Not so much a fan of it anymore. I figured out pretty quickly that liberal men think that sex is nothing more than fun, so there’s no reason to not do it all day every day; that abortion is empowering, so if you get pregnant, please go get one, and stop worrying about your education; that sex before marriage is okay; that sex outside of dating is okay, too - how quickly we’ve gone from “Who cares if a girl has sex with her steady, long-term, loving boyfriend” to the hook-up culture; and hell will freeze over before they take you to dinner and introduce you to their parents.

Oh, don’t get me started on their snootiness about guns. My favourite was when someone told me that I didn’t need to learn how to shoot and handle a gun, because I’m a vegetarian. The only reason anyone should know how to shoot is if they hunt, and, as I don’t hunt, I don’t need shooting lessons. I’m sorry, but even from a basic safety perspective, when 1/3d of American households have guns, I think that everyone ought to know how to control them.

I have better things to do with my time than to date a pansywait liberal. Picking lint out of my navel is one of them. :)
