Some Sarah Palin Link-Love For Your Friday

Cathy Young calls 2008 a great year for women, from Hillary to Sarah Palin.  Some choice quotes:

First, more representation for feminism across the spectrum of political beliefs is a good thing. Women, like men, should be able to disagree on gun ownership, environmental policies, taxes, even abortion while agreeing on gender equity….

Ultimately, women should vote on the basis of a candidate’s ideas and ability, not gender. But in the contest of the vice presidential candidates, Palin represents by far the better version of female empowerment [vis-a-vis Joe Biden]. Regardless of how we vote or who wins, that empowering message is here to stay.

Michelle Malkin on what is not being covered by the mainstream media: the masses that are coming out to cheer on Sarah Palin.  Her Wednesday appearance in Fairfax, Virginia  drew a crowd of 23,000 people.  Check out the pictures (which I cannot upload, since Conservablogs is being cranky).

Bryon York of the NRO has more on the excitement over Sarah Barracuda’s nomination.   Reagan conservatives now voting for McCain?  Women who have founded the Independent Women’s Forum and been members of Feminists for Life for a quarter-century saying that Palin represents a lot of women who have been silenced by the progressive left?  Woo-hoo!

Anyone know CPR?  Patterico is ready to have a heart attack: the LA Times took Charlie Gibson to task for mis-quoting Sarah Palin.

A video shows Palin asking a group to pray that the nation’s leaders were sending troops to Iraq “on a task that is from God.”

Gibson, however, mischaracterized her as simply asserting that the nation’s leaders were sending troops to Iraq on a task from God.

Religious or not, Christian or not, we can all hope that our leaders have the humility to try to do the right thing, rather than believing what they do is right because they are doing it.  Christians hope that they do God’s will; atheists hope that they are doing the right thing.  It is the good and decent people of the world who constantly ask themselves that question; they just frame it a bit differently.

Ann Coulter has a great column on terrorism, 9/11, Bush, and Sarah Palin.  The right-hand site bar of her website usually contains little anecdotes and jokes, but it’s turned into a one-stop shopping place for the debunking of Palin rumours.

Mark Penn, a top strategist for both Bill and Hillary Clinton, said that the media is being much tougher on Sarah Palin than it was on Hillary.

CBSNews.com: Your former colleague Howard Wolfson argued that you all unintentionally paved the way for Palin by exposing some of the unfair media coverage that Hillary Clinton received. And, therefore, a lot of the media may now be treating Sarah Palin with kid gloves. Do you agree with that?

Mark Penn: Well, no, I think the people themselves saw unfair media coverage of Senator Clinton. I think if you go back, the polls reflected very clearly what “Saturday Night Live” crystallized in one of their mock debates about what was happening with the press.

I think here the media is on very dangerous ground. I think that when you see them going through every single expense report that Governor Palin ever filed, if they don’t do that for all four of the candidates, they’re on very dangerous ground. I think the media so far has been the biggest loser in this race. And they continue to have growing credibility problems.

Read the entire thing for even-handed (hey, I’ll say that about a liberal) analysis of the election.

In the very blue California, Sarah Palin fundraisers are selling out.

“We are hearing from so many women who were not that excited about the Republican party in recent years, women are coming back to the GOP,” said Kristen Hueter, the chief fundraiser for the Siebel event on Sept. 25. An Orange County fundraiser has already been moved twice to accommodate the demand and 15,000 tickets are being distributed for a public rally in that county on September 26.

Simon has McCain-Palin wallpaper for your desktop. So far, he’s been ignoring my suggestions for “Maverick-Barracuda,” or even “Sarah Palin for VP” wallpaper.

Blogging for Sarah: We Love Gov. Sarah Barracuda Palin, Sarah Barracuda dot com, the previously mentioned Sarah Palin Sexism Watch, Palintology, and, of course, Thanks to Palin.

This isn’t Sarah-love in the true sense, but US News & World Report has a great article on small-town America and the arrogance of the Obama campaign in trashing it.  Mr. Langer makes some excellent (and non-partisan) points: small towns cannot run deficits the way that Congress does; small-town officials will hear it from their constituency when they mess up - and their constituents will walk into their back yard if need be; and that America is largely a nation of small towns, not urban areas.

As always, feel free to self-promote in the comment section. :)

Great roundup! Happy Friday from Hurricane central . . .

“Women, like men, should be able to disagree on gun ownership, environmental policies, taxes, even abortion while agreeing on gender equity….”

What a concept! It is hard to believe that most feminists don’t catch on to that. But as they showed when they completely overlooked Bill Clinton’s behavior, their love for abortion rights trumps all.

“masses that are coming out to cheer on Sarah Palin.”

I wish they had named her earlier. They will end up with a huge backlog of requested fundraisers come election time.

    Neil,

I disagree with naming Sarah Palin earlier. McCain would have had to name her at the beginning of August; otherwise, he would be stealing thunder from the Olympics and from the DNC (which would be tacky). Now, a lot of us think that the Palin nomination was in the bag for a long time - months. Had McCain picked her back in July, then Barack Obama would have had a month to vet out a female candidate who would appeal to voters, rather than chose the oldest, crustiest Beltway insider he could. (BHO may have also chosen HRC if McCain upped the ante that way.)

I’m not sure that the fundraising crunch matters; after all, they are taking public financing and, with the nomination, have a ton of star appeal and curiosity going for them.

McCain certainly would have gained conservative support sooner had he named Palin earlier. I do think the shock value to the libiots was worth the wait.

Good points on waiting, I see what you mean. There is no way Obama would have chosen Biden if McCain had gone first.

OK, there is one, but she’s not in Washington yet. Appropriately, at the end of “High Noon,” Cooper is surrounded by the last two highwaymen when, suddenly, his wife (Grace Kelly) appears out of nowhere and blows away one of the killers! The aging sheriff is saved by a beautiful, gun-toting woman.

    Sweet. :)

    Neil,

I hope you’re holding up under the storm. Do let us know when it’s passed.

    Sam,

Would he have gained more conservative support, or just gained it sooner? The shock was amazing - esp. when they were stuck with Biden - but, again, I think there’s an advantage to getting second pick. You get to enhance your own ticket and exploit weaknesses in their own.

    To all,

Sometimes, I’m still shocked - after hoping all summer - that he picked Palin. Still a bit of “pinch me, am I awake? Will we finally get a woman in the White House?” sort of thing.

    Tammi,

    I agree. :)

I think he would have only gained it sooner, and another benefit of waiting is that he has less time to lose some of that support, which he undoubtedly will unintentionally attempt.
