- the ones who deserve to have their churches burned (because they’re pro-life women who give birth while running the largest state in the country), and those who put Christ to shame (because God’s son is only that, not someone who has actually advocated for infanticice).
For those who have not heard: Sarah Palin’s church was burned in a suspicious fire. The temperature in Wasilla, Alaska, was about negative 20 degrees when the fire started (i.e. it’s not like it was near the flash point of eucalyptus), and the church is made out of metal. Note: anyone who would like to donate to help with repairs - estimated at $1 million - can find info for the church here.
Why is it that when an immigrant is killed, it’s considered to be a hate crime unless proven otherwise, but when a church is set on fire - which can be nothing but the clearest example possible of criminality against religion, a protected class - it’s not? Thanks, CNN, for another stunning example of left-wing media bias.
Speaking of religion, the Italians are making Obama figurines for creches. Riddle me this: how could any Christian be anything but humiliated to have his likeness put into a nativity scene? Would that not be blasphemy?
One gets her church burned for believing in the Bible and living an exemplary life; the other gets put into the manger scene after rising to power in one of the most corrupt political environments in America. Welcome to Wonderland, Alice!

I already wrote something, but there was a series of confusing events with my computer, and the screen disappeared…so I don’t think my first comment posted.
One thing, I don’t understand the assertion about it being -20 degrees when the fire started. I assume that investigators have reason for suspecting arson…but a cold day is not a buffer against accidental fires. In fact, accidental fires in times of extreme cold are quite common in areas where wood or fuel-oil heating systems are used (rural, Northern Minnesota former country girl here. I’ve stoked enough wood-stoves to know of what I speak).
And I’d like to point out that the kind of double-speak that you describe is not charactaristic of liberals in particular.
When there was a rash of arson fires in southern black churches a while back, the presedent of the IRD accused the parishoners of setting fires to the own churches for political and financial gain…when there was no indication whatsoever that this was the case.
Let’s wait for results before we jump the gun. All of this assumption that liberals did it…I’m sure both of the liberals in Wasilla will be thoroughly investivated.

Fun Anecdote: One night was so cold that the wood-stove was not keeping up with the cold, so the fuel-oil heater kicked in…some gunk in the fuel-oil furnace ignited (normally, it only came on when we were away for more than a day and could not stoke the stove, and so it had not yet been cleaned that year), and caused quite a bit of consternation.
Luckily, we were able to take care of it ourselves.
It was not the most pleasant night ever, though, as the house was quite cold, AND was full of thick, black oily smoke.

Oh!related to Obama being humiliated ’cause Italians are putting him in nativity scenes…I recently posted about how Catalonians have a hundreds’-year-old-tradition of hiding statues of people in the act of defication in nativity scenes…to symbolize fertilization, renewal, new growth, and new beginnings. A modern twist is to have the figures representing famous politicians or celebraties.
One of them is Obama, naturally. I imagine he finds that a lot more embarassing (pun intended…sorry)…but what can you do? Foreigners.
Bill Donohue of the Catholic League kind of put his foot in it when he billed it as persecution of Catholics, only to find out that it is a local custom accepted by the local church.
A mis-fire in the “war on Christmas”.

Teresa,
The building is 2.5 years old. I doubt it was an issue with an ancient wood burning stove.
My point is not that Obama is humiliated; it’s that he’s NOT. He doesn’t even speak out about it, which makes any thinking person wonder how deep this Christianity thing is (or if it’s more of a political expediency thing). Oh, well. Hope and change.
Roxeanne,
Wood-burning stoves are not the only potential fire-causeing systems that can be stressed by extreme cold. You’re from Michigan, aren’t you? I’m sure you know this stuff. Buildings burn down accidentally all of the time in extreme cold. I’m not saying it’s not arson…Im just saying that the extreme cold is not a factor in ruling out an accident, as many people seem to be implying. In fact, extreme cold can be a factor in electrical fires, fuel-oil furnace fires (many buildings in areas where there is extreme cold weather have fuel-oil back-ups for electric heat. You will notice that my anecdote was not about a wood stove starting a fire…but a fuel-oil back-up furnace).
Also, in remote, rural areas, many new buildings use wood-burning stoves either as a back-up or as heating suppliment.
I’m interested about what Obama is supposed to say. If he spoke out about it, I’m sure it would be spun (by someone)that he’s trying to suppress free speech and commerece…or he’s so arrogant and self-absorbed that he’s mad about his image being used, and why is he so obsessed with who’s putting his face on what, and not doing his job?
