Up-and-coming group making major progress
The Asian American Leadership Council of Nevada held its first policy summit in Carson City on Friday, April 20, and the event, which was designed to help the organization take its first step toward its goal of joining the mainstream American political process, was a great success.
Joe Enge, education policy analyst at the Nevada Policy Research Institute and chairman of EdWatch Nevada, was the invited speaker at the event, while JoJo Armijo, minority outreach liaison from the office of Gov. Jim Gibbons, attended as a special guest.
In addition, seven AA-LCN members from Las Vegas joined eight members from Northern Nevada in attending the legislative session as guests of Assemblywoman Francis Allen. The group observed the Assembly session from the floor, and was recognized and welcomed by the Speaker.
That afternoon, AA-LCN took another major step forward by officially adopting its bylaws at a meeting held in the Legislative Hall.
