Soldier Killed by Air Conditioner

So it seems a 23-year-old soldier named Robert Hornbeck got drunk as a skunk - wire reports say his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit for driving - entered the service panel door to a “room-sized hotel air conditioner” unit at the Hilton Savannah DeSoto hotel last April where he was “struck by fans in the air conditioner blower room.” Tragically, the young man bled to death.

Yes, alcohol can make you do some really stupid things. Things which can kill you. ‘Tis a shame Mr. Hornbeck learned that lesson the hard way.

But it’s also a shame his family has decided to sue the hotel for a whopping $10 million.

Now, unless the hotel forced Mr. Horbeck to consume large quantities of alcohol, and then force-marched him into the air conditioner’s fan blades, I fail to see how this tragic incident is anyone’s fault but the victim’s. And maybe his parents, who apparently failed to teach him properly about the dangers of over-intoxication.

Whatever happened to personal responsibility in this country?
