With much fanfare, Gov. Jim Gibbons appointed Democrat Secretary of State Ross Miller’s Democrat wife to the Transportation Services Authority yesterday.
Why? Weren’t there any qualified Republicans available to fill the vacancy? And even if there was a requirement to fill the vacancy with a Democrat, why the wife of a young, ambitious politician who will use this as a resume-builder for a future run for public office…maybe even governor in four years against Gibbons himself?
And isn’t this exactly the same sort of thing that Republicans criticized Gov. Guinn for doing eight years ago? And didn’t the Gibbons team consider that a Republican governor appointing a Democrat just might raise eyebrows among Republicans?
Perhaps there’s a legitimate reason for this appointment. If so, it seems Republicans are the last to know about it. This whole matter might not have even appeared in today’s edition of Nevada News & Views if someone had just bothered to make one phone call in advance and let us in on the thinking.
