The Democrats held a press conference yesterday unveiling their education agenda. And even though education spending is slated for a hefty 15.5 percent increase, Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, Assembly Education Chairwoman Bonnie Parnell, D-Carson City, and Debbie Smith, D-Sparks, the education panel’s vice-chairwoman, said that wasn’t enough. They want “mo’ money, mo’ money, mo’ money.”
Gotta have full-day kindergarten and higher teacher salaries, the D’s said. After all, Nevada’s education system is doing such a bang-up job that Nevada is now ranked 44th in the nation in education quality. Absolutely, we need to pay more for such stellar results, right?
And where would the extra dough come from, according to these Democrats?
From cutting the prison budget.
That’s right. The Democrat education agenda is to let prisoners out of prison in order to give teachers a pay raise and implement their statewide full-day day care program.
In response to the Democrats’ proposal to cut prison funding to fund full-day kindergarten, Assembly Minority Leader Garn Mabey (R-Las Vegas) said…well, um, nothing.
