Full-Day K’s Amazing Inflation

Two years ago, on January 27, 2005, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that Democrat Assemblywoman and gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buckley announced opposition to Gov. Kenny Guinn’s education trust fund proposal for failing schools and instead said she would “sponsor a bill to create full-day kindergarten in all Nevada schools.”

From the RJ story: “The price tag for full-day kindergarten is estimated at nearly $72 million over two years, according to the iNVest proposal of the Nevada associations of School Boards and School Superintendents.”

Well, Buckley and the education establishment are back for another bite of the apple this year, but a funny thing happened to the cost estimate over this brief, two-year period. iNVest now says implementing full-day kindergarten will cost over TWICE their original estimate. The school boards and superintendents are now asking for a whopping $186 million for the program!

Gee, I wonder what the price tag will be in another two years?
