The Bylaws Brigade

Seems I’m not the only one who is tired of GOP party members who hide behind bylaws as an excuse to do…well, nothing. Terresa Monroe-Hamilton is fit to be tied as well. Catch her well-considered opinion on this matter here

And now there’s a new excuse being floated around for not quickly moving Sue Lowden into a managing role at the GOP pronto. The latest goes something like this: “Well, we talked to Sue, and she’s OK with waiting until late April.”

Ummmmm….

What ELSE is she going to say? Is she going to stomp her feet and hold her breath until they hold the election? Is she going to DEMAND that they give her the job immediately? Of course not. How would she look as an outsider trying to force herself into the party’s top job. Of COURSE she’s going to say she’s OK with waiting until late April. Again, what else could she possibly say?

So, no. While Sue, if asked, is certainly going to say she’s fine with waiting until late April, the fact is she’s ready to step in RIGHT NOW and get the ball rolling…if the party elders would just LET HER.

And speaking of the bylaws…

I know there are some on the GOP’s Central Committee who are sticklers about the bylaws and are using them to block Sue Lowden from climbing into the pilot’s seat until the party’s next regularly-scheduled meeting in late April. This isn’t something personal against Sue. Some people in the party are just natural obstructionists. Throwing monkey wrenches into any situation is just what they do.

Well, live by the bylaws, die by the bylaws.

Nevada GOP Chairman Paul Adams resigned on January 29, 2007. Now here’s what Article 6, Section 4 has to say about “Vacancies”…

“During a vacancy in the office of State Chairman, the Vice Chairman will exercise the powers and perform the duties of Chairman, and shall call a Special Meeting of the NRCC (Nevada Republican Central Committee) within 60 days to elect the new Chairman.”

That means the bylaws stipulate that a special meeting to elect a new Chairman has to occur by the end of March…NOT the end of April. If you’re going to follow the bylaws, of course.

Not that anyone apparently cares.
