Beers Accused of Trying to “Diminish” Gov’t

From the Department of Duh: State Sen. Bob Beers (R-Las Vegas) has another of his wacky, fiscally responsible ideas. Instead of each government department starting out each fiscal year with the same budget they had last time out and then adding on to it, each department would start each budget year at zero and have to justify EVERYTHING they’re spending in their budget first, before anything new is added on.

Gee, who could argue with that?

Jan Gilbert of the Liberal…er, I mean the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada says such a proposal would make it easier to cut government spending. “I think it’s an attempt to diminish government,” the Associated Press quotes her as saying. “I’m concerned that this is going to have a severe impact.”

Hello? In the immortal words of comedian Carlos Mencia, “Di-di-di!”

  1. I agree! All governmental agencies should be zero based…of course, the legislative session might have to be expanded in order to accomodate the newly needed testimony advocating that each program should come to life for another 2 years.

  2. I’m outraged to discover that our govt. DOES NOT use zero based budgeting
