Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley (D-Las Vegas) likes government. No, she loves government. She likes, she loves it, she wants more of it. But Gov. Jim Gibbons (R-Nevada) has said “no new taxes.” And that includes, says the governor, fee increases. Which is driving Buckley up the wall.
Buckley supports a fee increase to add additional staff to the Commission on Post Secondary Education which would increase the number of bureaucratic “inspections” of some 200 private professional and technical training schools in Nevada. Yes, despite the “critical” need for more money to build roads, Speaker Buckley wants more money to hire more government workers whose job it is to “find” more problems in the private school sector.
Here’s a better idea: Get rid of the Commission on Post Secondary Education completely and take their existing budget and shift it over to widening I-15. Yeah, THAT’S the ticket!
