Serial-tax hiker state Sen. Dennis “The Tax Menace” Nolan was at it again yesterday.
His latest scheme to take more money out of our pocketbooks…in addition to taxing a non-existent oil industry in the state, placing a tax-hike on the ballot to pay for roads, and charging parents for kids who play high school sports…is to fine (tax) parents whose kids get sent to detention. “Maybe we will get the parents’ attention if by no other means than hitting them in the pocketbook,” the Republican senator from Liberaland said.
Does anyone doubt that once the schools figure out they can snatch some extra dough by keeping kids after class that kids who so much as look at their teachers cross-eyed will soon be swamping detention hall?

Mr.Muth,
Wow, I don’t understand how you feel like you need to skew Nevada politics soley in order to get a small, yet enthusiastic, under-informed group of people all heated. It’s unfortunate that you are taking advantage of people who would like to know what is actually going on like the real facts of bills and opinions of legislators.
I’m not sure whether to be too concerned or not because what I’m thinking is what you’ve got going on is a small group of libertarians who sit around all day hovered over their computers who like to complain with much to do about nothing.
You just keep right on thinking that.
Ohhh…I’m shaking in my boots. Sounds like a creepy little threat.
Somehow, it doesn’t surprise me that you would think of this as a threat. You’d obviously be out of your depth in a parking lot puddle.
Hmmm, you are extremely weird sounding. Although, I guess that you’d correct me if I were wrong in my thinking about what your intentions are. You threw me though, with your sarcastic tone in your response, for the reason I expressed I’ll assume that I’m right on point.
What I love is how quickly your diction has changed. On March 19 you said “he wants to tax parents whose kids play high school sports!” and now March 21 you’ve corrected it by saying “charge” parents. All that is required is to read the proposed language and realize that it is not a fine or a tax, rather it’s a method for the school district to charge a reasonable fee to allow their kids the opportunity to play sports. This is something for the parents not required. What is amazing is that people have a tendency to read or examine only one source of info, if that happens to be your postings many people are getting the wrong ideas. Please represent both sides or quote the bill so that it’s not misconstrued.
You guys are funny. Taylor, you must be too young to remember the Felix Unger “assume” episode of “The Odd Couple.” And Vance, what a riot. Where in the world did you get the idea that it’s somehow my responsibility to present BOTH sides of an issue on MY blog. What planet are you from? If Sen. Nolan wishes to debate me on this issue, fine. Name the time and place. You tell him that.
Chuck,
First, get a new retarded depth joke. you used that on me a long time ago, and your inability to find new material speaks volumes for your, um, depth.
Second, you are fighting the classic inner battle of conservatism here. You are against taxes but would lament that most parents are ridiculously underperforming in their child’s education (except you, of course, and I have no reason to believe otherwise). Please correct me if you think modern parenting is spot on in education.
So Nolan is proposing that parents who have kids that act like asses at school (and believe me, if one of my kids come home with a detention slip, I’ll make sure he or she hears that and a bit more) either shape the kids up themselves (before the system is forced to do so) or pay up to cover an unbudgeted cost of bad parenting. Are you telling me you’re against that? Or is it that the word “tax” triggers an unstoppable jerk in your knee and brain that makes you unable to comprehend other solutions. also, it’s not a tax. I know, semantics.
Classics never get old.
If a kid acts up in class, kick him out of school. Why should kids who behave themselves have to suffer because of a class clown?
They don’t, the kid goes to detention. I know, some kids never quit. But kicking them out of school is a horrible option and not exactly good for society. This plan really seems like a decent alternative, at least on an experimental level.
Mr. Muth,
What an episode of “The Odd Couple” has to do with whatever kind of response you were trying to give is beyond me and if you want to blame that on my youth then go ahead but I think I’ll call it an irrelevant citation. And I guess that you are (I’m not going to use the word crazier) more uninformed and out of touch than I had heard and read, kick kids out of school for acting up in class…? What are you talking about?! Do you listen to the things that you say?
Though I feel better after hearing you say something like that, because well, that’s just plain stupid. No disrespect.
Somehow it doesn’t surprise me that this subject material is over your head.
Mr. Muth,
This subject material isn’t even anywhere near your head! You don’t even understand the bill! You say that kids who don’t misbehave shouldn’t have to suffer and the in house suspension is a way for those kids who do behave to not be punished.
If you feel that way like you said then you agree with Senator Woodhouse and Senator Nolan.
The kids aren’t suffering; the parent’s pay a small fee.
Did you know that?
Additionally Mr.Muth it seems as though when you know that you’ve been shown that you’re off base, you simply surrender to one liners in order to avoid what you have realized.
The issue here is that people need to be informed and when you only present one side of and issue and a fabricated one at that how does that help the process evolve into something that works for all the people of the state of Nevada. Its no wonder people are falling out of love with the republican party. When we have people only telling one side of the story, that helps no one. I would hope a person such as yourself, (putting your beliefs and criticisms up for all to see) would offer both sides for a much more informed public. As far as unruly students, its those students that are out of school and unmonitored that end up getting into more trouble. I like the idea of a student being placed into detention with a teacher/monitor/ other adult etc. watching over them instead of having them out of school creating more problems.
Don’t confuse my unwillingness to waste my valuable time debating this with you as an inability to do so. I just have bigger fish to fry. You guys have your opinion, as misguided and uninformed as it is, and I have mine. Feel free to start your own blog and give the opposite side of mine. It’s a free country.
Waste your valuable time…now that’s rich. Mr. Muth, all you have is time. You sit around all day staring at your computer. The problem is you’re worried about fish to fry while people are trying to find solutions.
I’ll leave you be until you start ranting more Moot.
Thanks Mr.Muth
Why don’t you all just arm wrestle and get it over with all ready!! The time wasted here proves none of you are “MOTHERS”, let me rephrase that, how about “MOM’S”.
I don’t quite understand the whole “MOM’S” thing. Can you please explain?
