Sources report that on an informal conference call of the Nevada GOP’s executive board and some county GOP chairmen, a consensus poll was taken to gauge support for moving the Republican presidential caucus to January 19th in order to compete directly with the Democrats next year.
Acting-Chairman Paul Willis, after pooh-poohing the online petition many of you signed, took a firm position on the matter: “I’m not opposed or for this,” Willis is said to have said.
In the end, only three people on the call reportedly objected to Nevada Republicans being second in the nation in the GOP presidential selection process next year…including, embarrassingly, the county chairmen from Lyon County and Carson City. What those two guys were smoking before the call is a matter of considerable speculation.
The bottom line: It’s on!
I’m told an official meeting of the Exeuctive Committee will be held on April 4th, at which time an official vote will be taken which the Central Committee will surely consider heavily when they vote officially to move up the caucus to 1/19 at their April 21st meeting in Carson City.
