With Republicans Like This…

Assemblyman Joe Hardy (R-Boulder City) was one of the five Republican assembly-critters who actually voted FOR the largest tax hike in Nevada’s history in 2003. If that wasn’t bad enough, this week Asm. Hardy circulated a propaganda position paper to his GOP legislative colleagues put out by the Nevada Association for the Education of Young Children in support of the Democrats’ controversial plan to force five-year-olds into a new, statewide, taxpayer-funded government-run day care program being called “full-day kindergarten.”

Now, full-day K proponents bristle at the notion that their proposal is nothing more than taxpayer-funded day care, but the position paper that Asm. Hardy circulated specifically states that that’s exactly what it is: “Full-day programs would reduce the need, stress and expense of child care.” At taxpayer expense. Case closed.

Of course, full-day K proponents tout their proposal as a way to better educate kids, but the position paper distributed by Asm. Hardy reveals the dirty, little secret most of us on the other side already know; that what these poor kids are actually going to get is just a longer dose of typical government touchy-feely “socialization” flapdoodle. Indeed, another argument NevAEYC makes for full-day K is it will provide kids “the opportunity to hone skills such as problem solving with others, learning to express needs” and to “develop healthy self esteem.”

Oh, how lovely. Taxpayers sure need to cough up $156 million for THAT, right?

And just in case anyone thinks the full-day K proposal is going to mean a strong focus on academic performance, their hopes will be shot down when they read exactly what kind of curriculum NevAEYC is calling for:

“Academic skills in kindergarten need to be taught within a play-based curriculum that allows for a wide range of skill levels to allow each student to reach his or her maximum potential. Additionally, socialization skills such as cooperation, negotiation and working well within a group should remain an integral part of the kindergarten curriculum.”

Again, lovely.

So don’t be fooled into believing this is full-day K and not full-day play…which will require from all of us full-day pay.

Why Asm. Hardy, who runs for office as a Republican every election year, is promoting this scheme to his GOP colleagues is truly a mystery. I just hope he feels good about himself.

  1. […] You ain’t gonna believe this one: Tax-hiking Nevada Assemblyman Joe Hardy (R-Boulder City) circulated a briefing paper in support of full-day kindergarten to GOP colleagues last week which was drafted by the Nevada chapter of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). 2. It doesn’t matter what state you are in. The new liberal “nanny” government is here. The touchy feely good stuff reported in the mainstream press only shows made up, PFA (Pull From Air without substantiating evidence), facts to validate it’s legitimacy. The Nevada proposal, like the Rob Reiner California preschool for every child act, filled with fraud, personal gain, pre-school proposal goes deeper than stolen or “misappropriated” money, unsubstantiated value or necessity, for “the kids.” It’s another attempt to begin the indoctrination of our children at the earliest age possible. Are they proposing to begin our four year olds watching films about “alternative life styles”, and led to believe it’s as normal as heterosexuality? Why do we need this any more than the indoctrination of the Hitler youth during WWII except it’s being proposed all over America? When all taxpayers are forced to fund it, irresponsible parents will obtain free day care and relieve themselves of their duty to raise their own kids with responsible values, values reflected in what America respects. I don’t give a damn if your offended, those values were given to us in the Ten Commandments . Technically, I may be politically incorrect but I am absolutely correct. If you don’t want to raise your own children, use birth control. Let me guess, this is mandatory so the new preschools get their ADA funding if your child is not enrolled and participating.
