You ain’t gonna believe this one:
Tax-hiking Nevada Assemblyman Joe Hardy (R-Boulder City) circulated a briefing paper in support of full-day kindergarten to GOP colleagues last week which was drafted by the Nevada chapter of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
You may not have heard of NAEYC before; I know I hadn’t. So I did a little checking.
Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin reported in April of 2003:
According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which oversees preschool teacher training, curriculum standards, and daycare accreditation, “That’s Not Fair! A Teacher’s Guide to Activism with Young Children” is “an exciting and informative’ resource for ‘developing community-building, deep thinking, and partnership to change the world for the better.”
Clap-trap, to be sure.
The book was written by an anti-war “social justice” feminist named Ann Pelo. In the book, Pelo writes about an activism project she initiated in her Seattle preschool class in which she scared the crap out of the toddlers by making them think the Blue Angels Navy demonstration team was going to bomb their city.
One of the kids in her charge wrote the following to the Blue Angels as part of the class project:
“If you blow up our city, we won’t be happy about it. And our whole city will be destroyed. And if you blow up my favorite library, I won’t be happy because there are some good books there that I haven’t read yet.”
Talk about brain-washed.
Pelo is also involved in a huge, new controversy over her decision to ban kids from playing with Legos in her classroom.
And she made author Bernie Goldberg’s list of “100 People Who are Screwing Up America,” joining the likes of Michael Moore, Barbra Streisand, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, Michael Jackson, Jimmy Carter, Dan Rather, Al Sharpton, Al Gore, Al Franken and Jerry Springer.
Pelo is a kook. The NAEYC is kooky for embracing this kook and her kooky ideas. So what’s it say about a Republican assemblyman who touts these kooks and their kooky positions in favor of full-day indoctrination…er, kindergarten?
Asm. Hardy should do a better job of screening who he climbs into bed with politically. Indeed, you might want to suggest just that by emailing him. Just click here
