Fooled ‘Em Again, Josie

In return for a relatively small, temporary reduction in the payroll tax, most Republicans were snookered into OK’ing a huge, new permanent increase in government spending by voting for the 2005 budget.

Fast-forward to 2007. Revenue projections are down. Therefore, the first thing to go, say the Democrats, is any idea of extending that temporary tax cut from 2005.

So Republicans voted for a huge increase in spending in 2005 in exchange for a tiny tax cut. Then, just two years later, the huge spending increases are considered untouchable, while the tiny tax cut is being thrown under the bus.

Will Republicans ever learn?
