According to sky-is-falling hysterics delivered to the Legislature this week, Nevada is in DESPERATE need of a state…paleontologist.
Forget highway construction. Forget education. Forget health care. We need to protect our fossils before they end up in out-of-state museums! The gravity of the situation cannot be overemphasized! There are dire consequences should we fail to create this new bureaucratic position!
Mark Warden of Budget Watch Nevada writes that this ranks right up there with the state climatologist for ‘why on earth do we need that?’ status.” Warden adds, “I wish the state would make me the State Blogger and give me an office and salary and all of those nice government employee perks like PERS.”
A Nevada New & Views reader who has been following this critical issue in the Legislature writes:
“If Nevada gets a state paleontologist this session, can a state fossil museum be far behind? Because after all, what good would a state paleontologist do for the citizens if (s)he didn’t have a museum to oversee? It doesn’t take a Kennedy School of Government grad to understand that next session we will sit through a finance hearing where there’s a presentation — given by the state paleontologist — explaining why Nevada needs millions for a fossil museum.”
All in favor of limiting legislative sessions to just 12 days every ten years say “aye!”
