The Tax-Happiest Mayor in Nevada

Bob Cashell, Republican mayor of Reno, said the following to the Reno Gazette-Journal over the weekend: “I think (Gov. Gibbons) is going to have to raise fees or taxes or something, or this state is going to be in trouble with gridlock and poor education.”

With all due respect, Mr. Mayor, we tried that already. Just four short years ago the Legislature passed the largest tax hike in Nevada’s history. $833 million dollars worth. You could look it up. Yet despite passing enough tax and fee hikes to fill a bomb crater at the Nevada Test Site, this state is STILL suffering from gridlock and poor education.

So isn’t it high time to consider that maybe, just maybe, the answer to all our troubles isn’t always more money from the taxpayers?
