Gas Tax Politics

Las Vegas Sun columnist Jon Ralston reported yesterday that a movement is afoot by some Republican state senators to join with Senate Democrats to pass a gas tax hike with the required 2/3 majority, and then override an expected veto of the tax hike by Gov. Jim Gibbons.

This report was followed up this morning by an Associated Press story noting that “Nevada is tied with Oregon for the third-highest gasoline prices in the continental United States.”

If Democrats in the Assembly, coupled with Democrats and a handful of wayward Republicans in the Senate, want to approve yet another huge tax hike on a gallon of already overly-expensive gas just four years after the largest tax hike in Nevada’s history over a gubernatorial veto, I say…bring…it…on. I would LOVE to take THAT issue into Campaign ‘08!
