At the start of today’s Nevada GOP Central Committee meeting, acting-Chairman Paul Willis delivered some pointed comments directed at yours truly. Not by name specifically, but by reference to a “certain conservative columnist” who criticizes elected Republican officials. Duh. I wonder who that is?
In essence, Mr. Willis said I was a bad Republican because I criticize, I guess, “good” Republicans who, you know, do things like vote for more government spending, tax hikes, collective bargaining for government workers, restrictions on gun rights, and stuff like that.
And I’m sure I was a “bad” Republican because I pointed out how stupid it was to allow Nevada Democrats to be the second in the nation in selecting their party’s presidential nominee without Nevada Republicans doing the same.
And I guess I was a “bad” Republican for pointing out how stupid it was for the Nevada GOP to wait three months, in the middle of a legislative session, to bring someone with such fantastic qualities, experience and abilities as Sue Lowden into the party’s leadership seat.
Former acting-Chairman Willis said it was time for “certain conservative columnists” like me to stop pointing out when the GOP emperor has no clothes.
And apparently there are a lot of other Nevada Republicans who agree that no matter how badly Republican elected officials and party leaders screw up, the best way to fix the problem is to…ignore it. You know, like how the best thing to do when you have cancer is to ignore it and just hope it goes away.
So after being put in my place and publicly taken to the proverbial woodshed by former acting-Chairman Willis, I’ve decided to stop publishing Nevada News & Views until I can decide if maybe just letting these sorts of things…like Republican Assembly Minority Leader Garn Mabey saying publicly that he’s thinking about breaking his no new taxes pledge, or Assemblywoman Francis Allen wasting everybody’s time with a ridiculous bill raising the mandatory age for wearing a life-preserver from 12 to 13, or Republicans voting unanimously against a bill encouraging water conservation in the desert…go by without comment and appropriate ridicule from me any longer.
Fortunately, former acting-Chairman Willis has made me see the light. I’ve now seen the error of my ways. I now understand that it just isn’t helpful to point out when Republicans screw up or don’t vote like, well, Republicans. I mean, no matter how bad it is, I need to get with the program and join the team and support Republicans just because they’re…well, Republicans. My party, right or wrong, right?
So this issue of Nevada News & Views will, indeed, be my last words for a while. I’m booking a flight to Tibet where I hope to receive divine guidance from the Dali Lama and spiritual help in getting my head straight. Hopefully, after some serious meditation, I will return and there will no longer be heard a discouraging GOP word from my lips or keyboard.
I’ll be a good a party soldier and support Garn Mabey when he breaks his “no new taxes” pledge. I’ll support Republicans who vote to give government employees collective bargaining. I’ll support Republicans who vote against school choice and for Dina Titus’ full-day kindergarten. I’ll support Republicans who want to keep our campuses free of the means to protect our children from mass murderers who enter the classroom. I’ll support Republicans who vote for Democrat Assemblywoman Barbara Buckley for Speaker.
Thanks, former acting-Chairman Willis, for helping me see the light! Since I won’t have to bother writing this newsletter any longer, I’ll have more time for the playground with the kids. Adios, everybody. See you on the other side…

Chuck has breathed hope into the Libertarian Republican movement.
I enjoy every deliciously sarcastic moment of his column. He has proven to give a voice to the frustrated tax payer who is the victim of the unbelievable scam going on in Carson City.
Kick ass and take names!!!!
Since when does holding elected officials accountable make you a “bad Republican?” Maybe in an Orwell novel, but not in Nevada. Keep up the good work, Chuck. Send me a post card from Tibet.
Don’t bother coming to Tibet because I’m coming to see you for advice. Some of my monks wear the outfit , talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. I want to confer with you on how to put them back onto the path to enlightenment. They are worse than useless when they stray. Please help.
My theory about voting is to support the candidates who best represent my political philosphies and beliefs AND have the guts to “stand strong”. Over the years I have been registered in both of the major parties while sometimes wondering why we don’t have better choices. And it gets hard to choose when so many elected officials turn into “flip-floppers” along the way. To you I say “please don’t give up”! We need more voices like yours to keep our politicians on the straight and narrow, or otherwise to get them booted out of office in the next general election. I don’t always agree with you, but if this is still America, you have the right to say it like you believe it is. Again, PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP!
I sure hope you are joking (once again), because I would miss reading the educational and informative emails you send. True Republicans need people like you to fight the fight. More now, than ever before. I feel that there is a good Conservative Movement going on now, not only in Nevada but other states, in part because of people like yourself. I also know that you are smart enough to know Mr. Willis was only getting back at you the best way he could. I know YOU will not let HIM win the war!!!
Please say you are Kidding!!!!!
I’m looking forward to hearing you speak at the SMRW meeting this Thursday. Keep up the good work.
PS My father who was very passionate about being a conservative and supported Barry Goldwater to the end, would have really liked you.
Chuck, now you’ve been appropriately chastised for holding the Republicans accountable, I hope you enjoy your search for enlightenment in Tibet. But, when you return, give hel, Chuck!!
Chuck, I understand your frustration. You should have stayed a little longer to be REALLY frustrated by some of the attendees that could not understand why anyone would want to move the caucus date up to Jan. 19th for the presidential candidates. But alas the will of the rational won out and it was voted to be moved by a large majority. Take a break if you need to but consider the source or should I say sources.
It is a breathe of fresh air to have a leader in Nevada take charge and actually be in charge. Welcome Sue! Oh yes, now where can we find a national leader?
Chuck:
You have got to be kidding, you can’t quit, we need you now more than ever. Finally we have Sue on board. We still need you to ride herd on our gutless repubican legislators and point out the error of their ways.
We need you more than the Dali Lama does. Please stay!
Chuck, it’s April 21’st… not April 1st!. This kind of joke isn’t funny.
I want my next newsletter.
CHUCK, DID YOU RECEIVE MY MESSAGE TO YOU , WITHIN THE LAST HOUR ???? THANKS !!! RICHARD
Chuck,
You have done a great service for those of us who seem to be voiceless in Carson City. Being plagued by the likes of Assemblyperson Hardy and RINO Jon Porter hasn’t made things better.
The fact that the outgoing, ineffective chairman decided to slap your wrist in public (as no superior should ever do) should not have nay effect on what your future course of action should be. The useless representation we have in the Assembly this session needs to have its collective feet put to the fire with great regularity. Keep up to good work and pour it on.
Chuck, I hope this is a “tongue in cheek” statement. Your reports are always first to be read in my email. Just when the republican party might be making a turn around, I think they still need your “guidence” during this time.
Chuck,
We all knew who Paul Willis was talking about. As I was saying “Yes” to the things you said, GiGi Valente looked at me as though I was crazy. What you have said about the minority leader,I forgot his name, Darn,Maybe I’ll think of it later.
John Wagner
Yeah, I’ve seen the light too. No longer will I be kicked off of county central committees for supporting a democrud who voted more conservative than the gop leadership. No longer wil I be taken for task for daring to ask why out leaders and their pimps quietly supported Harry Reid. I sure won’t be the one to demand that a gop governor accept the title of “RINO” after giving us the largest tax hike in history and I sure won’t upset the apple cart by pointing out that our gop has turned us into Californica-East with all these great nanny-state laws, like no smoking, no eating, no drinking, no enjoying and no freedom.
Hell, I’ll even start giving all of my money to those wonderful casino owners as my way of thanks for making me carry their load while they ignore why they were legalized in the first place.
Yup, Thanks EX-chairman (and former democrat) Willis for helping this formerly registered and once loyal Republican see the light.
I did not attend the Republican State Convention, but I find it very disturbing to hear of a Republican “leader” using this platform to criticize a vocal conservative. The time would have been better spent attacking/challenging the Democrat’s legislative agenda, the news media bias to the Republican and Governor Jim Gibbon’s agenda and the disgusting personal attack strategy that has so obviously been adopted by the Democrats.
Our Republican Party needs a good kick in the pants and the strong, well-researched views of those within our party and those that publish them should be respected, discussed and debated - not ignored, slighted and slandered…..whether you agree or disagree with them!
“Ignorance, when voluntary, is criminal.”
WHO WILL SAY “THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES???”
I fully expect that this post will be removed or I’ll be attacked; but some things have to be corrected.
The reason Muth found himself in trouble has nothing to do with his articles. His republican activist newsletter, which only attacks republicans, is annoying at best. The problem is AB 437 and Muth’s treatment of Minority Leader Garn Maybe.
AB 437 is not a tax increase. It is an optinal program where you can have the DMV place a health warning (i.e. Diabetic) on your licence or ID card for a cost of two dollars. Only the person excersing that option pays. Once again…Not me…Not you…the person who wants it on the card is the only one who pays. This is called choice, not tax.
Muth has been threatening and attacking Maybe for months. When Maybe voted, along with everyone else, to amend, not pass…amend, AB 437, which is not a tax increase, Muth paid for and ran an automated phone bank, with a spin that the Clintons would be proud of, telling republican voters that Maybe is voting to raise their DMV taxes.
It is one thing to point out real voting records in any venue. It is totally different when you not only lie, but then call hundreds of people to repeat that lie. It is also something that we would expect during an election year from the other party, not a supposed “conservative” republican.
If Chuck Muth does not like being referred to as “The best republican that the democrats have ever had”, than Chuck Muth should consider his actions; because his actions make him “The best republican that the democrats have ever had”. I have been watching his newsletter for months now and the only time I have ever seen this “conservative republican” say anything about the democrats is when he is saying that republicans are acting like them. Muth has even gotten on NPR and attacked our Governor, an elected official who is saying no to taxes and Muth says he supports.
One last thing, I was at the meeting in Carson City. The only person in the room that said “Why did we wait three months to put her into office” was Muth. When people smile at you and nod, but say nothing, it does not neccesarily mean that they agree with you. They may simply have no idea what to do with you.
I am hoping that Muth restarts his newsletter in a couple of months, after he has had time to consider what really went wrong here. He could be so effective, and raise so much more money, if he stopped working for the other side. He could have gone through the bills, helped Garn Maybe choose which bills that the republicans should fight to the death, and then helped them actually pick up seats by spinning against the other party. He could still do that, but only will if he is a big enough man to mend some bridges.
Chuck,
Even I would hate to see you go; is there another conservative “voice” in this State besides yours?
Stick around, the empty headed jugs are just jealous of your cognitive abilities.
Illustrating absurdity by being absurd!
I’ve never even heard of AB 437. So considering you couldn’t even get that part right, Laura, I give the rest of your meandering rant exactly the attention it deserves.
I didn’t go after Mabey for this bill, whatever it might be. I went after him because of his comments saying he was thinking of breaking his tax pledge on Nevada Newsmakers. You should try reading for comprehension.
You should also consider the wisdom of the old saying, and it might lose something in the translation or in my spelling, “En boca cerrada, no entran moscas.”
P.S., Laura. You might help what limited credibility you have if you could at least spell the name of the man you’re defending correctly. It’s “Mabey,” not “Maybe.” And you’re supposed to be some kind of high-priced lobbyist?
Good riddance, shithead.
Hi! very amused by the website .
Hello, What a beautiful and awesome site. I adore what you’ve done with your setup and graphics. Thanks you so much.
