A new Reno Gazette-Journal poll shows Gov. Jim Gibbons’ job approval rating at about 30 percent, basically the base of the Republican Party which will stick by the governor as long as he sticks by his pledge to veto any efforts to raise taxes. Democrat Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, who every Republican member of the Assembly but one voted for, slammed the governor, saying the poll results show “a lot of problems.”
You wanna talk about “a lot of problems”?
Dating back to last fall’s campaign, the governor has been hit with a cocktail waitress, an illegal nanny, a cruise with Patrick Swayze, a midnight swearing-in ceremony that bombed, a $10,000 dress, an FBI investigation, missteps on introducing his signature education reform proposal, myriad difficulties with his budget, lousy press relations and questions about his wife’s consulting contracts.
Yet despite ALL OF THIS, the same poll which shows Gov. Gibbons’ poll numbers still in the tank also show…
That he would STILL beat Dina Titus if the election were held today.
Now THAT’S a Problem. With a capital “P.” Not for the governor; for Titus. Let’s see the press do a story on THAT.
